In September of 2016, Kevin Holdridge and Steve Mickley attended the AIBD Metro Atlanta Chapter meeting held at Georgia Piedmont Technical College in Clarkston, Georgia. Chapter President, Robert Platt presented Steven Mayer with his bronze Compass Club pin, for his efforts of student enrollment into AIBD, starting a chapter at the college. Steven graciously volunteered to support the AIBD Metro Atlanta Chapter efforts to grow in membership, by paying the application fee(s) for student member enrollment.
The Compass Club is AIBD’s recruitment program, like the National Association of Home Builders’ Spike Club. Individuals join the club when they recruit the earn their first “point.” Individuals receive two points for Professional members and one point for the other levels of membership, associate, student, educator.
Student Experience and Education Development program (SEED)
The chapter is facilitating field teaching opportunities for the students, along with the cooperation of Habitat for Humanity and NARI. Robert has taken on the position of AIBD program manager and is working with Stephanie Voltolin, Director of Computer Graphics and Design, authoring a state-wide two-year Residential Design degree.
I was awarded this plaque by the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) national board. In appreciation for my efforts and acts of leadership, in of my contribution to student membership enrollment at Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC). Growing the local Chapter's membership and initiating the push to establish an active AIBD mentoring program and proposal of a new platform the “SEED” program.
Through the “Student Experience and Education Development (SEED) program.” Active AIBD student members can take part in chapters facilitated field programs with Habitat for Humanity. An AIBD professional member would have the opportunity to mentor one or more students, providing additional education and experience in an office environment.
