Steve Jobs is one of the 3 founders of Apple. Unfortunately, he passed away on October 1, 2011 at the age of 56. Due to a neuroendocrine tumor, a form of pancreatic cancer, a rare cancer. Despite the fact that Jobs was only 56 years and 7 months old, he meant a lot to the current Apple. Jobs played a crucial role in the development of iconic products such as the iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Mac computers, he co-invented them, launched them and certainly also presented them well to the people.
Even though you probably haven't heard of Steve Wozniak or Ronald Wayne (The co-founders of Apple), they also played an important role in the beginning of Apple.
How it all started...
It all started with Steve Jobs.
And Steve Jobs didn't start on April 1, 1976 when Apple was founded.
Steve Jobs started at the beginning. Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 and grew up with Paul and Klara Jobs, his adoptive parents. Jobs was adopted 67 days after his birth, on May 2, 1955.
He grew up in a small modern house (modern for 1960) in Los Altos California (USA) at 2066 Christ Drive. In the garage of this house is also the first Apple computer, Apple I designed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. But that comes later.
Jobs went to 4 different schools.
He started in primary education, the Monta Loma Elementary School. (5-11 years)
After that he continued his education at the Crittenden Middle School (a kind of school between primary and secondary school). (11-14 years)
During Jobs' time at the Crittenden Middle School, Jobs was introduced to the company Hewlett-Packard by his neighbor. This company was an electronics company from America. Which is still active today. Hewlett-Packard is a very large and well-known company. You will probably recognize it more quickly if I just say HP. At the age of 12, Steve Jobs had a phone conversation with Bill Hewlett (one of the founders of HP) where Jobs asked Hewlett for parts for a frequency counter that he wanted to build.
Bill was impressed with Jobs and gave him the parts and a summer job.
After Jobs had received the parts and the summer job, he asked if he could join the Hewlett-Packard Explorer Club.
The Hewlett-Packard Explorer Club was a student club that gave students the opportunity to learn from projects that the engineers of Hewlett-Packard were working on.
The student club consisted of about 15 members. And all those 15 members learned a lot in the club. The members of the Hewlett Packard Explorer Club sometimes organized meetings in the cafeteria of HP (these were only for an audience within HP). At these meetings, the engineers of HP all explained to the students and shared their projects with them, gave presentations and explained everything very precisely.
Well, that was HP back to education.
When Steve Jobs finished his elementary education at Crittenden Middle School, he moved to 2066 Christ Drive Los Altos California because Jobs started getting bad grades, probably because he was a victim of bullying.
After the move, Jobs went to Homestead High School. (14-18 years)
While at Homestead High School, Jobs met an electronics teacher named John McCollum. He greatly enhanced Jobs' interest in technology. McCollum asked Jobs if he would like to participate in his classes and experiments. He was a retired Navy pilot and was able to consistently capture the attention of his students.
McCollum had a great impact on Steve Jobs.
Jobs became more and more interested with each class.
McCollum had a passion for teaching useful material and for creating educational experiments.
At Homestead High School, Steve Jobs met a classmate of his named Bill Fernandez. Fernandez and Jobs were in the same class and became friends. Fernandez was also Steve Wozniak's neighbor. In 1971, Fernandez introduced Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak to each other. They quickly realized that they had a shared passion for electronics and also for joking. Their first project together was a bluebox.
A bluebox from the 1970s is a type of device that can send frequencies over the telephone network without the system knowing that you have to pay for it.

Reed College
Steve Jobs attended Reed College.
Reed College is a private school that is also called a private school.
A private college is not funded by the government.
Because they are not funded by the government, they often charge more admission fees for a course.
They are also usually more selective when it comes to their students.
Most schools also have entrance exams.
The schools are often a little different than the well-funded schools.
A few well-known private colleges in the US are: Harvard University, Stanford University
and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
However, Steve Jobs only attended one semester at this school. But he did live on campus for 1.5 years. In the meantime, when he had stopped his studies, he still followed classes that interested him. Such as: calligraphy, Shakespeare, modern dance,.
1.5 years after dropping out of his studies in humanities, psychology, and philosophy, he officially left Reed College.
Atari
After leaving Reed College, he went to work at Atari that same year (1974). Atari was a company that meant a lot to the development of video games. It was founded in 1972 and developed the first game ever that same year. This game was a huge success. The game is called Pong, Pong started with a simple game booth. But since it was a big success, more and more were made. And that was such a big success that in 1975 a version was made that you could buy to play the game yourself at home. And now back to Steve Jobs. Jobs was hired at Atari in 1974 as a technician. So he had the task of producing the game booths, he had to assemble them. Occasionally, Jobs involved Wozniak in some projects. Wozniak could only help Jobs in his spare time, since he also had a job at HP. He was an engineer at HP. Jobs earned $5000 a year at HP back then. Now that is very little for one year. But if you compare that $5000 back then with all the inflation that has happened, that would be about $20000 today. Wozniak earned about the same. During Jobs' time at Atari he met Ronald Wayne. Ronald Wayne is the founder of Apple together with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. In 1976 Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs both resigned from Atari and HP.
Apple
Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne on April 1st 1976, despite the fact that Apple was founded on a day for jokes, Apple is no joke for the development of technology. A little before and a little after Apple was founded, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak resigned from Atari and HP. The Apple I (the first Apple computer) had already been designed and marketed. Ronald Wayne had written the manual for it. He had also designed the first Apple logo. Yet he was the only one who did not want to resign from Apple. He also signed a contract for his share which was only 10% while Jobs and Wozniak each had 45%. After 12 days Wayne had already left the company. He sold his 10% share to his two co-founders for 800$. Ronald Wayne never admitted that he regretted his decision to leave Apple, he was just afraid that he would end up in debt since Jobs had taken out a loan for 15000$. So he left the company. He did admit that he sold his contract with Apple for 500$ which was later auctioned for 1.59 million dollars. Apple grew and the second Apple computer Apple II was released in 1977. This was already a huge success. Apple also started to get more and more employees. In 1985, Steve Wozniak felt less and less at home in the company as it grew. On February 6, 1985, he left the company. He remained a shareholder, which Ronald Wayne no longer wanted to be. After Steve Wozniak left, he founded a new company called ‘CL 9’, this company developed the first universal remote control, the ‘CORE’ (control operating remote equipment)
Steve Jobs leaves Apple as the 3rd of the founders
After Steve Wozniak left the company on February 6, 1985, Steve Jobs left the company on September 13, 1985 after a fight between Steve Jobs and John Sculley (the then CEO of Apple). Jobs felt that the company should focus more on new products, while Scully felt that the company should focus on selling their products. This difference of opinion led to a conflict in which Steve Jobs decided to leave the company and sell almost all of his shares, he kept one share so that he would still have access to the annual shareholders meeting. After his departure, Jobs founded NeXT. NeXT was known for their powerful computers that specialized in the market for r education. With the NeXT computers, the first web browser was also created called: ‘WorldWideWeb’ (later renamed to Nexus).
Due to Jobs’ success at NeXT, he was able to buy ‘The Graphics Group’ for 10 million dollars 363 days after his departure from Apple. The Graphics Group was founded in 1979 as part of the company Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm was a company of George Lucas that specialized in computer graphics that would later be used for modern animation. After Steve Jobs bought the company, he renamed it to Pixar. Pixar’s first big success came in 1996 with the famous film
‘Toy Story’. After Toy Story, famous films followed such as: Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, UP,... In 2006, Walt Disney Company took over the company for no less than 7.4 billion dollars.
Back to Apple
In 1997, Steve Jobs returned to Apple, but how? He didn’t have any stock or enough money to buy enough since Apple was worth a lot more at the time. Steve Jobs came back to Apple because his company ‘NeXT’ was acquired by Apple. The company was acquired for 429 million dollars and 1.5 million Apple shares worth 15 dollars each (now they are worth about 85€) that is together another 22 million 500000 dollars more. Because of all those Apple shares Jobs became involved with Apple again, first he got an advisory role and later he became CEO on September 19, 1997. He kept this role until August 24, 2011, 42 days before his death.
After Steve Jobs died, Tim Cook became the new CEO of Apple, Tim Cook is still the current Apple CEO to this day.
Major Launches of Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs has done a lot of important launches during his time at Apple, these are a few of the most important. :

Steve Jobs also had a child from a previous relationship with Chrissan Brennan.
Her name was Lissa Brennan Jobs. Steve Jobs denied that she was his daughter. He even said that he was sterile and that 28% of the American population could be her father. Until in 1980, the government ordered a DNA test and it turned out that he was really her biological father.
Then he was convicted and had to pay $385 per month as a punishment, later when he became a millionaire he voluntarily increased this to $500 per month.
Steve Jobs also had a biological sister.
Later Jobs' biological parents married and they had another daughter, Mona Simpson,

Jobs found his sister because he had tracked down his mother in 1985 and then also discovered that he had a sister. He and Mona became good friends. Jobs also met his father by chance in the 80s. His father worked in a restaurant where Jobs often came as a manager. When they met each other they did not know that they were related.
