This app is developed and maintained by Brittany Rima ("I", "me"). This policy explains what data StepTracker collects, how it's used, and what never leaves your device.
The Short Version
StepTracker reads your step and activity data from Apple Health. That data stays on your device and is never sent to me or to anyone else. The app itself connects to one service, RevenueCat, to check your subscription, and that connection never includes health or activity data.
Your progress — badges, journeys, step goals, and rest days — is kept on your iPhone too, so deleting and reinstalling the app doesn't lose it. It never syncs to iCloud or anywhere else, and you can erase it at any time in Settings.
Health Data
With your permission, StepTracker reads data from Apple Health, including steps, distance, flights climbed, walking and running metrics (such as walking speed and walking steadiness), and heart data (such as resting heart rate, walking heart rate, and heart rate variability).
It is processed and stored only on your device. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, that backup includes it, as it does for your other apps.
It is never sent to me, to RevenueCat, or to any other server or third party.
It is never used for advertising, sold, or shared.
StepTracker doesn't write health data to Apple Health. Starting a live walk asks for workout permission because iOS needs it to run the walk, but the walk isn't saved to Health.
You can turn off access at any time in iOS Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices.
Motion & Fitness
If you start a live walk without an Apple Watch, StepTracker uses your iPhone's motion sensors to count that walk's steps. The count stays on your device.
Your Progress
To keep your progress when you reinstall the app, StepTracker stores these on your iPhone, in the iOS Keychain and in the app's own storage:
which badges you've earned, and when
your step goal, and when you changed it
when you used Rest Mode
which walking journeys you've taken
the date you started using the app
This record never leaves your iPhone. It isn't synced to iCloud, sent to me, or sent to RevenueCat. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup includes it like the rest of the app's data, so restoring that backup onto a new iPhone brings your progress with it.
Your free-trial dates are also kept in the Keychain so that reinstalling doesn't start a new trial.
Erasing Your Progress
Deleting StepTracker removes the health data it stored on your device, but not your progress record, which is kept so a reinstall can restore it. To remove it, open Settings › Your Data › Erase Progress. This deletes the record from your iPhone, and badges and journeys start again from that day. Your current step goal, a Rest Mode that's on, your data in Apple Health, and your trial dates aren't affected. Backups made before you erased still contain the old record.
Apple Watch
If you use the Apple Watch app, your iPhone sends today's step count, goal, streak, and your last few days directly to your watch. This goes between your own devices, not through any server.
Purchases and Subscriptions
StepTracker uses RevenueCat to process and check subscriptions and purchases.
RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID generated by the app and your App Store purchase history — what you bought and when it renews or expires.
It also receives Apple's identifier for vendor (a device ID that's the same across one developer's apps on your device, and is not the advertising identifier), your device model, iOS and app version, preferred languages, App Store country, and IP address, as any internet service does.
I don't require or collect your name, email, or Apple Account, and none of this is linked to them.
No health data or progress record is ever sent to RevenueCat, and RevenueCat isn't used for advertising or tracking.
Payments themselves are handled by Apple. I never see your payment details.

What I Don't Collect

No advertising identifiers, tracking, or third-party analytics
No cookies
Diagnostic Data
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple's standard crash and performance reports may reach me through Apple's developer tools.
Children's Privacy
StepTracker is not directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
