Step Time counts your steps and spends them as screen time on the apps you choose to block. Doing that needs a pedometer reading and a look at which app is in the foreground — and both of those stay on your phone.
Local Storage Only: Your step counts, history, daily goal, earned screen time, and blocked-app list are stored only in the app's own storage on your device. We have no server and no account, so there is nowhere for them to be uploaded to.
Real-time Usage: Usage access lets Step Time see which app is on screen right now, so it knows when to spend your quota. That reading is used in the moment and is never stored or sent anywhere.
Third-party Data: What does leave your device goes to Google, not to us: advertising data for AdMob, purchase records for Google Play Billing, and anonymous usage events for Firebase Analytics.
Complete Deletion: Uninstalling the app deletes everything it kept locally.
This policy explains how the Step Time Android app ("Step Time", "the app") handles information. The app is published by RisensApp ("we", "us"), [registered address — fill in before publishing]. If you use the app, this policy applies to you.
Step Time has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no backend service of ours. We do not build a profile of you and we do not sell personal information.
All of the following is written to the app's private storage on your phone and is readable only by Step Time:
Step data: Today's step count, the raw value last reported by the hardware pedometer, per-hour step totals, and a rolling history of roughly the last 45 days and 24 months.
Screen-time quota: Seconds earned today, seconds remaining, and your reward rate (how much screen time a step is worth).
Your settings: Daily step goal, whether tracking is on, and the list of package names of the apps you chose to block.
Purchase status: A cached flag recording whether you hold an active subscription or lifetime upgrade, so ads can be switched off without a network round trip.
Note: None of this is transmitted to us. There is no export, sync, or upload path in the app.
Android asks you to grant the sensitive permissions below. You can refuse or revoke any of them in system settings; the related feature simply stops working.
ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION: Reads the device's step counter sensor so walking can be counted and turned into screen time. (Stays on device)
PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (Usage access): Tells the app which application is in the foreground, so it can spend your quota while a blocked app is open and stop when you leave it. (Stays on device)
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Display over other apps): Lets the block screen appear on top of a blocked app when your quota runs out. (Stays on device)
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES: Lists the apps installed on your phone so you can pick which ones to block, with their names and icons. (Stays on device)
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_HEALTH: Keeps a single ongoing notification and background service alive so steps keep counting while the app is closed. (Stays on device)
POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Shows the tracking notification and goal reminders. (Stays on device)
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Restarts step counting after you reboot the phone. (Stays on device)
REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS: Asks your permission to exempt Step Time from battery optimisation so the counter is not killed mid-day. (Stays on device)
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Loads ads and consent forms, and checks your purchases with Google Play. (Sent to Google)
com.android.vending.BILLING: Processes subscriptions and the one-off upgrade through Google Play. (Sent to Google)
Step Time does not use the camera, the microphone, your location, your contacts, or your files, and it does not request those permissions.
Three Google services are built into the app. Each collects data under its own privacy policy, and we receive only aggregate reports from them — never your step history or your list of blocked apps, which are never sent off the device in the first place.
Google AdMob (Advertising): Free versions of the app show banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads. AdMob and its advertising partners may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device and OS details, and interactions with the ads, in order to serve and measure ads. See Google's advertising policy.
Google User Messaging Platform (Consent): Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA and the UK), a consent form is shown before any personalised ad is requested, and the ads SDK is only started once your choice allows it. You can reopen that form at any time from Settings → Privacy options in the app and change or withdraw your consent.
Google Play Billing (Purchases): Subscriptions and the lifetime upgrade are handled entirely by Google Play. Payment details are entered in Google's interface and never pass through the app; we receive only the purchase token and status needed to unlock the ad-free version.
Firebase Analytics (Usage measurement): The app reports a small set of anonymous, aggregated events (e.g., a blocked app being opened, a daily goal being reached, screen time being earned) together with the app instance identifier and standard device information Firebase collects. These tell us which features are used; they are not linked to your identity. See Firebase's privacy documentation.
Buying a subscription or the lifetime upgrade removes ads; the ads SDK is then not started at all.
Rewarded ads are always optional — watching one grants bonus screen time, and declining costs you nothing but the bonus.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, which limits ad personalisation across every app on the device.
In regions where a consent form applies, your consent choice can be changed at any time from Settings inside the app.
Step Time allows Android's standard backup, so your settings and step data may be included in the device backup your phone makes to your own Google account, and restored when you set up a new device. That backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us; you can turn it off in Android Settings → Google → Backup.
Step history is trimmed automatically: daily records are kept for about 45 days and monthly totals for about 24 months, after which the older entries are dropped.
To erase everything the app holds, uninstall it, or use Android Settings → Apps → Step Time → Storage → Clear data. Because the data never leaves your device, that is genuinely all of it. Purchase records held by Google Play, and data collected by AdMob and Firebase, are governed by Google's own retention rules; to ask us about those, write to the address below.
Step Time is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
EEA & UK Residents: You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Our lawful bases are your consent (for personalised advertising), the performance of a contract (for purchases), and our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used. Because the app's own data sits on your device, you can exercise access and deletion directly, by opening the app or clearing its data.
California Residents: You have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising in the sense of the CCPA/CPRA.
To make a request, email us at the address below.
App data is held in private application storage that other apps cannot read, and network traffic to Google's services uses encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but keeping your data on your own device removes the largest risk: there is no central store of it to be breached.
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the "last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app or in the release notes. Continuing to use Step Time after a change means you accept the updated policy.
