Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How are pupils assessed?
All pupils complete an initial assessment so I can pitch teaching accurately from the outset. Groups are carefully formed based on ability and learning needs. Parents receive assessment feedback with next steps.
How many pupils are in each group?
Sessions are small and ability-grouped, usually with 2–3; occasionally 4 pupils per class.
Do you offer 1:1 tuition?
Primarily small-group sessions. 1:1 may be available on request.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions are delivered in a dedicated, purpose-built classroom in Colindale (NW9). I do not offer online.
Do you offer 11+ preparation?
Yes. I support pupils preparing for selective 11+ entry. Sessions are 1hr long per subject. Consistent effort at home is important, and I recommend beginning preparation in Year 4 to allow skills to develop steadily rather than rushing in Year 5.
How is progress tracked?
Parents receive clear written feedback after every session outlining coverage, outcomes and next steps. Slides are attached to explain what has been covered, including homework that is matched to reinforce learning.
What makes your tuition different?
I plan deliberately for engagement, drawing on pupils’ interests and designing units that encourage thinking, discussion and contribution. English is taught through meaningful fiction and non-fiction contexts, with grammar applied in real writing. Maths develops fluency, reasoning and depth - not isolated drill sheets.
How long are sessions?
Session length varies depending on the group, subject and pupil needs. Most small-group sessions run for approximately 1 hour 15/30 minutes, allowing sufficient time to cover both English and Maths with depth and purpose.
Subject-specific sessions typically run for 1 hour. In some cases - particularly where concentration or learning needs require it - shorter, focused sessions (e.g. 45 minutes) may be more effective.
For 11+ preparation, sessions are delivered as 1 hour per subject to ensure focused and thorough preparation.
