Hello! I am Stephen Willadsen a sprite and concept artist, as well as a UI designer who has many talents in my field. I pride myself on my ability to solve problems in-front of me and try to be a strong asset on any team I am apart of. I absolutely adore game design and working on games. I have been a lover of games since a very young age and I have always wanted to work on game creation, as well as designing innovative and fun concepts.
I strongly believe I am able to preform the basic skills such as communication, time management etc. to an amazing level in a team setting in the field of game design. Here is a list of the area's I believe I excel in and have something to offer a team; I am also extremely adept at stress management and working under pressure, keeping a cool mind at all times.
My Ability with Unity and unity tools is expansive - I know how to use a lot of unity tools at a glance and know how to quickly solve problems if they arise.
I am able to use a variety of tools to obtain amazing results
photo-shop / Gimp - Moderate proficiency
Aesprite (A Spriting / sprite sheet creation software)
Github - Essential to any project!
Adobe premier - Moderate proficiency
Blender - Moderate proficiency, I know my way around it, but struggle with more advanced processes
Trello - Trello is an amazing tool I use to organise even my day to day, Can't go wrong being organized I say!
Slack - Although I personally prefer discord, Slack is a great alternative!
Discord - I have been using Discord for years, and consider myself really adept at using and adapting on discord. I have a lot of experience making and moderating servers
.Medibang Pro - Art creation, I require improvement on this subject!
My Aspirations
There is always room for improvement, and my goal is to improve myself as much as I can, I want to continue to learn and grow, so I can eventually bring my Game and characters within that world to life. At the moment I highly wish to improve my programming skills, as well as continue to improve my art ability in general.
"One day I want to create the game of my dreams and bring Hoards of players into the world of my creation, so they can enjoy my characters as much as I do!"
My Time at SAE studying a Bachelor of Game design
Starting at SAE I was overconfident, ready to take on the world, I thought I could do anything, but over time I discovered there was much to learn.
First 3rd
I did well my first two Trimesters, however in my first production class I hit my first roadblock, drawing wasn't really my strong suit, and I was stubborn to try new art programs, limiting myself to just Microsoft paint. It was during this period that I wrote my first GDD, and created my first two games, Hollow world and Spellthief, two very unique experiences, I'll never forget.
Second 3rd
3rd Trimester I could no longer keep my momentum from previous tri and my grades began to fall, I ended up focusing on UI and while I really enjoyed working with UI, it limited my experience too very niche opportunities, while I learnt a lot about less viewable topics, like GDD creation, writing and general teamwork in this setting, my ability to show my work quickly began to suffer, In this period, I was apart of the teams that made Defective Detective, and in my opinion the best release I was apart of WICK. Wick Gave me the opportunities I needed to shine, and I was highly encouraged to start branching out which I did and my art improved because of it. I was humbled but still confident, I was happy there was room to improve.
Third 3rd
My Last two Trimesters at SAE was incredibly messy, while I learnt much during them, a lot of mistakes where made along the way. In the process, I started to think to myself, I'm not really cut out to do this, and I lost the confidence I had finally after all the time I spent at SAE. I have a lot to learn about a lot of things, and I can only ever try my best at what I do.
Resolution
From this I have decided I wish to pursue less artistic and more technical directions of Games design, Throughout my time at SAE I took a large interest in programming as I spent time there, always looking to learn more lines of code when I can, and I highly wish to learn programming properly now. Though I will still practice drawing, and I don't think I will ever give up art, I definitely think studying programming is the best direction for me as a person now.
