Experiences

Chick-fil-A

I have worked at Chick-fil-A since July 2017 where I am now transitioning to become a Manager from my role as a Certified Trainer. Within these positions, I establish attentive and connected customer service by refreshing beverages and taking orders. I assemble accurate orders in the drive thru and on the front line while maintaining cleanliness standards. As a Certified Trainer, I teach new team members how to accurately perform each position. I orient them to the core values of Chick-fil-A and train many of the younger team members how to display professionalism and courteousness in the workplace. I collaborate with other leaders to gain feedback about areas that need to be improved to help the team members grow as individuals within the company. As a Manager, I will be responsible for leading shifts by making line-ups, responding to guests' concerns, and managing money. These positions have influenced my future goals by deepening my desire to make a difference in the lives of others through my career. I am always astonished how being kind to others and being receptive to feedback and new ideas can make a difference.

Brain Balance

I worked at Brain Balance during my second year of college, where I became a Certified Cognitive Coach. I worked with children experiencing various challenges ranging from autism spectrum disorder to oppositional defiant disorder. I worked with children on reading, eye, core, independent, and balance activities. I learned to create an environment for children to feel comfortable communicating their thoughts and feelings. This experience equipped me with valuable communication skills and techniques to assist individuals in overcoming difficult situations. This job further developed my goal of helping others work through various obstacles.

Riley Hospital for Children

I volunteered at Riley Hospital for Children on 7 West and in the Child Life Zone for my first two years of college. I helped to create an encouraging environment for children and provided them with some enjoyment during their time at the hospital. I learned ways to assess patient needs and engage them in various games and crafts. This experience has influenced my career and internship goals by reinforcing my desire to encourage the people I work with.

Camp WACK

For three summers I volunteered at the Water Activity Camp for Kids, also known as Camp WACK, where I assisted children and young adults with special needs to water ski with modified equipment. I helped to provide an encouraging environment for campers to enjoy their experience. This camp was one of the first times I was exposed to working hands on with individuals with disabilities, and it deepened my desire to work with individuals with disabilities in my future career. This experience allowed me to work as a team with other individuals to facilitate an enjoyable and safe camp for participants.

Tu Futuro Program with La Plaza

I tutored up to six students weekly who needed help in biology, algebra, English, and career development classes at Lawrence North High School. I monitored the progress students were making and noted any concerns I had about students. All of these students spoke Spanish as their first language, so there was often a language barrier when communicating the directions to an assignment. My minor is Spanish, so being immersed in this environment helped to shape my goal of removing language barriers in my future career. During COVID 19, the program transferred online where I met with students one on one to assist them in completing coursework. Through this experience, I learned how important it is to communicate with staff members about the progress a student is making. I also learned different ways to break material down into smaller steps to help students understand certain concepts more thoroughly.

Franciscan Health

I volunteered at Franciscan Health in the inpatient and outpatient Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy departments where I learned more about my prospective career. I assisted Occupational and Physical Therapists in work activities. I ensured the needs of each patient and therapist were met through maintaining a clean environment and participating in some hands on experiences. This experience influenced my goals by beginning to define what kind of work environment I would like to be in in the future.
