Step Up & Succeed
Strengthening every rung of the apprenticeship ladder
Strengthening every rung of the apprenticeship ladder
LLSC's goal with this initiative is to strengthen the skilled trades in Ontario. We are doing this by supporting key players in the apprenticeship system. This includes Employers in the skilled trades, Pre-apprenticeship and Apprenticeship Training Delivery Agents (TDAs) and Ontario’s Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) system.
To support employers we are developing a series of events which will be hosted across the province. At these events we will share resources and promising practices including
utilizing the services of adult upskilling (LBS) programs
strategies other employers have used to build their workforce
attracting equity deserving people in the skilled trades
retaining your workforce
and more...
We are also developing a resource hub to share tools, tips and resources to support employers as trainers. This hub will help employers
develop effective training, mentorship, supervisory and communication skills
develop and enhance their equity, diversity and inclusion strategies
build their capacity to develop trainers, supervisors and successfully coach staff through each level of an apprenticeship
respond to the unique, individualized needs of their apprentices
These tools are quick and easy to use. They offer tips on how to make small, manageable changes that can have a large impact for employers by
• increasing safety
• improving compliance from your workforce
• expanding your hiring pool
• futureproofing your workforce
• reducing costs for attraction, training and daily operations
• improving the businesses reputation in of your community
• remaining current and cutting edge with your knowledge and practices
We will also host opportunities for Training Delivery Agents (TDAs) to better integrate adult upskilling programs (LBS) into the apprenticeship systems. We will share the success stories and best practices of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship TDAs and LBS programs who are already working together.
We will provide an LBS Network toolkit and training to help LBS programs build their capacity to support learners working towards a career in the skilled trades.
We plan to share the good work that can be done by increasing collaboration across multiple apprenticeship-focused organizations and employers. We will show the many ways that employers in the skilled trades, Training Delivery Agents, unions, and the LBS system can benefit from working together. We will also share information on how those partnerships lead to better outcomes for apprentices across Ontario.
