Red River STEM, Inc. (dba: Sci-Port Discovery Center) was organized to engage in scientific, educational, literary and charitable purposes and to promote, encourage, carry on and aid in the establishment and operation of a science and technology discovery center.

We are a group of people dedicated to the hobby of radio controlled model aircraft and are chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, known simply as the AMA. The AMA, as the national sanctioning body for Model Aviation in the United States, provides leadership, competition and education to it members, and is also the insurance provider for Model Aviators across the U.S. There are several thousand clubs similar to ours in this country and any current member of the AMA is eligible for membership in the SHARKS.

Red River National Wildlife Refuge is made up of several units in the Red River Valley in northwestern Louisiana and provides habitat for waterfowl, wading birds, songbirds, and other native wildlife species.. The Refuge boasts a large Visitor Center, Headquarters Offices and Education Center that opened in January 2012.
The STARBASE Louisiana 2.0 middle school program ignites students’ passion for innovative STEM investigations and solutions through an immersive and collaborative approach. STARBASE 2.0 is a multi-year creative immersion in STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through hands-on science and engineering projects. STARBASE 2.0 is implemented at participating middle schools in Bossier and Caddo Parish in either an after-school or in-school setting.

The National Weather Service in Shreveport is one of 122 weather forecast offices around the country. There are also 13 river forecast centers, 9 national centers, and other support offices. We have regional headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri; Bohemia, New York; Fort Worth, Texas; Salt Lake City, Utah; Anchorage, Alaska; and Honolulu, Hawaii. The national headquarters for the NWS is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. The NWS employs 4,000+ employees. The NWS provides a national infrastructure to gather and process weather and climate data worldwide. Each day, NWS collects some 6.3 billion observations, and each year issues approximately 1.5 million forecasts and 50,000 warnings. The NWS is a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which is also a part of the Department of Commerce.

The North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory, provides forensic science services in the areas of Drug Chemistry, DNA Analysis, Firearms Examination, and Forensic Toxicology.
We are accredited by ANAB under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 guidelines for testing laboratories. Our DNA section is also accredited by QAS.
We have 3 laboratories in our system located in Shreveport, West Monroe and Alexandria.
Civil Air Patrol is America’s premier public service organization for carrying out emergency services and disaster relief missions nationwide. As the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, CAP’s vigilant citizen volunteers are there to search for and find the lost, provide comfort in times of disaster, and work to keep the homeland safe. Its 56,000 members selflessly devote their time, energy, and expertise toward the well-being of their communities, while also promoting aviation and related fields through aerospace education and helping shape future leaders through CAP’s cadet program.
