So what exactly does STEM mean? STEM is an acronym for the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. Discussion of STEM-related programs has become a number one priority because there has been a significant decrease in the amount of college students going into these fields.
STEM-based education teaches children more than scientific and mathematics concepts. The focus on hands-on learning with real-world applications helps nurture a variety of skill sets, including creativity and other skills needed in our day and age.

STEMSOS is a rigorous, interdisciplinary, standards-focused, and engaging STEM teaching approach that is teacher-facilitated, student-centered and directed through sets of project- and inquiry-based (P&IBL) projects. STEMSOS PBL approach is to maintain the focus on standards-based teaching while enriching and extending the learning of students through PBL projects. The goal is to promote not only collaborative skills and student ownership of learning but also to promote student success in state and national standards.
