We asked:
1) What would happen if we changed the type of string?
--Answer: When we used the yarn it had so much friction the balloon would often get stuck 1/2 way down!
The fastest string had the least friction--fishing line!
2) What would happen if we changed the weight?
Answer-- The Marlins also caused a lot of friction in the air (drag) and we should have used smaller weights that did not catch the wind!
Heavier balloon = slower over all
3) What would happen if we changed the size of the balloon?
Answer-- we only tested this once and it flew off the line!
Our Balloon Rockets got hit by real life science and we had to real life problem solve:
Sometimes they got stuck
The straw wasn't taped center so the force went to the side instead of forward
They popped!
The air pumps broke or we pumped different amounts
The tape was a sticky situation
When we taped the straw on we let air out of the balloon before we launched
Balloon fell off the string
Problems with the timer, not accurate
Taping the balloon backwards
BOX PUSH:
Speed it up, slow it down-- use friction to mess with the speed of this box!

Come Prepared for Creek Study:
Wear
shorts or short pants that can get wet
Shoes that can get wet and muddy. Socks are recommended (yes, I know that sounds weird).
Bring (will store at Secret Stuff Spot)
Water bottle
Change of clothes and shoes for after (might be just in case, but bring it!)
Towel for your feet
A bag to put your wet stuff in
A great attitude
Optional: If you have your own nets you can bring them. Know they will get muddy. No masks, snorkles, etc--- we are NOT swimming. The deepest we will go is knee deep.
2nd Grade: Today we are locating 6 different places on Earth using Google Earth. We will learn what weathering and erosion factors they have there.
If you have
