STEMCraft Enrichment embraces a maker philosophy of learning by doing, empowering kids to realize their own visions through experimentation and self-direction; technology is a tool in the creative process and community is the backbone of the collaborative experience. As a maker educator, I create a supportive environment that encourages kids to explore, find their own way, ask for help when needed, and accept failure as part of the process. This builds resilience and reinforces their confidence that they can learn and accomplish new things.
Tech learning is at the core of my maker philosophy but it is not the exclusive goal. Kids learn fundamental skills, make connections with the world around them, and then use technology to enable their imaginations. There is no limit to where a child’s imagination can take them or what methods they can use to get there (safely!). They are encouraged to not be limited by what they know, use their skills creatively, and to be confident in seeking new knowledge.
Community is an essential part of my maker philosophy. Shared knowledge and resources are essential to growth. And intrinsic to community are equity and inclusion. Diversity of people and ideas broaden the creative experience, opening minds to different ways of doing things. Making is collaborative and failing together is more fun. We share what we have and are resourceful with what we use, reusing and reappropriating whenever possible. In the end, I want to see kids go off to forge their own creative futures, whether that is building fantastic art or developing solutions to critical challenges.
