Arend Agulhas was born in June 2021. In October 2021, he was diagnosed with a rare immune deficiency called Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD) - a disease that prevents white blood cells from fighting off bacterial and fungal infections.
In the short time he’s been alive, Arend has been admitted to the hospital several times for life-threatening infections. Now that Arend is home, his family is waiting for a donor match, so that he can undergo a bone marrow transplant which should cure his condition. Until then, Arend is on prophylactic medication to protect him against fatal infections.
We are creating an appeal to ask people to join the donor registry, in the hope of finding his match.
“As we are a mixed-ethnicity family (South African-Latvian), we especially urge people who are also mixed-ethnicity to join.”
Jude is an 8-month-old boy from Edmonton, who was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD) when he was 5 months old.
CGD is a bloodborne genetic condition that affects his white blood cells; thus his body cannot fight off certain bacterial and fungal infections.
Through a stem cell transplant, Jude has the potential to be cured of his condition, and live a normal life - as all children deserve.
Without a stem cell transplant, Jude will likely be faced with a lifetime of extended hospital stays and, overall, a significantly shortened lifespan.
Jude’s best hope for finding a match is with someone who has a mixed ethnic background - particularly Metis, Ukrainian, and Portuguese.
Dr. Shahin Nouri's ONLY hope of survival is to receive a stem cell transplant. He was originally diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Since then, he has also been diagnosed with a second form of Lymphoma. As a result, he has developed a severe immunodeficiency.
Shahin urgently needs a stem cell transplant, but has yet to find a donor. His best match is likely someone who is of Persian and/or Iranian and related ethnicities, such as Middle Eastern, South Asian descent.
