Firefly Aerospace Secures $175 Million in Series D Funding, Aims to Redefine Space Industry
Cedar Park, Texas, November 12, 2024 — Firefly Aerospace, a company known for revolutionizing the space industry, has announced a major milestone: the successful closing of a $175 million Series D funding round. This round, which was oversubscribed, values the company at more than $2 billion and marks a significant step forward in its mission to provide end-to-end responsive space services.
Leading the Series D round is RPM Ventures, a venture capital firm with a long history of backing groundbreaking companies. Joining RPM Ventures are new investors GiantLeap Capital and Human Element, along with Firefly’s existing investors.
Marc Weiser of RPM Ventures praised Firefly for its innovative approach:
“Few companies can say they’ve defined a new category in their industry – Firefly is one of those. They’ve established themselves as a full-service provider for responsive space missions, setting the standard for modern space and defense technology.”
Firefly’s reputation is built on its ability to deliver rapid and reliable space services. This was demonstrated during the VICTUS NOX mission, where Firefly met the U.S. Space Force’s challenge to prepare and launch a payload within 24 hours—a record-breaking achievement in the industry.
Jason Kim, CEO of Firefly Aerospace, expressed his gratitude to the company’s investors and highlighted their confidence in Firefly’s capabilities:
“This funding represents a significant vote of confidence in our team and our vision. We’ve shown that we can deliver under pressure, and our investors see the potential for even greater achievements.”
Firefly’s ambitious plans for the future include:
Blue Ghost Mission to the Moon: As part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative, Firefly will transport payloads to the Moon, supporting scientific research and exploration.
Alpha Launch Vehicle: Firefly is ramping up production of its Alpha rocket to meet demand for multiple upcoming missions with major partners, including Lockheed Martin, NASA, and NOAA.
Elytra Spacecraft: The company’s Elytra mission will provide on-orbit services and establish a deep space communication network, further expanding Firefly’s capabilities.
Medium Launch Vehicle Development: In partnership with Northrop Grumman, Firefly is developing a new vehicle to serve larger payloads and more diverse missions.
Kirk Konert, Chairman of the Board, shared his excitement:
“This funding solidifies our position as a leader in responsive space. Our team’s innovation and determination are rewriting the rules of what’s possible. 2025 will be a historic year for Firefly and the space industry as a whole.”
With this new funding, Firefly plans to scale up its production capabilities and continue its tradition of capital efficiency. The company will focus on expanding its market reach, advancing the Elytra spacecraft, and accelerating the development of new launch vehicles.
As Firefly continues to break new ground, it’s clear that the company is poised to play a leading role in shaping the future of space exploration and technology. For high school students dreaming of careers in aerospace, Firefly’s journey offers an inspiring glimpse into what’s possible when innovation meets determination.
