With her experience and training as an instructional designer, curriculum developer and professional development trainer, and with her in-depth research on integrated STEM instruction, Dr. Monica Trevathan can help any organization, big or small, urban or rural, and those with under-served student populations.
Dr. Trevathan began researching and developing integrated STEM education in 2003 with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). As the lead instructional designer and project manager for education programs in NASA's human spaceflight program, she designed innovative curriculum and teacher professional development focused on research-based best practices. She continued to fuel her passion and build expertise in STEM education by pursuing and completing a doctorate in a STEM specific curriculum and instruction program.
She has served as a Principal Investigator on STEM educational research projects for the National Science Foundation (NFS), U.S. Department of Education, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). In these projects she led the development and research on K-12 STEM topics including energy science, computer science, and programming logic utilizing game-based learning.
One of her current program evaluation projects, funded by the State of Texas, is with an After School program across nine sites and is in its second year of a three-year contract. She also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, preparing future teachers in technology applications and developing graduate students' skills in project management and grant writing.
