Stefano Mereta

Postdoctoral researcher in Mathematics

Welcome to my homepage!

I am a postdoctoral researcher at KTH in Stockholm, under the supervision of Kathlén Kohn, from September 2023. Prior to this, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Max-Plank Institut for Mathematics in the Sciences in the Nonlinear algebra groups lead by Bernd Sturmfels.

I was awarded my PhD in Mathematics in June 2022. I was part of a joint doctoral program between Swansea University and Université Grenoble Alpes under the supervision of Jeffrey H. Giansiracusa and Andrea Pulita. My thesis is entitled "A general framework for tropical differential equations". It can be found here.

The common theme in my research is to explore the foundations of new areas of pure mathematics, with a view towards applications.

My main interests are at the interface of differential and commutative algebra, number theory and tropical geometry: laying the foundations of differential tropical algebra and understanding its interactions with the p-adic world, non-archimedean geometry and tropical scheme theory.

In the group of Pr. Kohn, I focus on the study of neural networks, and in particular ReLU networks, using tropical geometry.

My CV is available here.
