Installation

This page will guide you through how to install SDL.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS TO YOUR PRIMARY PC ACCOUNT, ONLY RUN THE INSTALLER AND UNINSTALLER FROM A SECONDARY ACCOUNT!

This program will change the Windows shell to start Steam in Big Picture mode (Deck like UI) and then restore the Windows Shell or another action of your choice when you quit it.

Step by step guide:

1. Create a 2nd PC account, this account does not require admin rights (information on how to do this here)

2. Download the latest version of the installer from here

3. From the new account run the SDL Installer

4. Once the installer has completed, logout and back in to start using SDL

Change where SDL looks for Steam

By default SDL is set to the default Steam location, if you installed Steam to a different location then please go to C:\Steam Deck Launcher\ and open STEAM.LOCATION with a text editor such as Notepad (Included with windows) or Notepad++, enter the full path to your .EXE using quotation marks "" around any folders with spaces in the name.

Change what SDL does when Steam is closed

When you close Steam the Windows Shell will be launched, you can change what SDL does instead such as logging out of the account (Set CLOSED.LOCATION to SHUTDOWN -L) or opening a alternative program by going to C:\Steam Deck Launcher and editing CLOSED.LOCATION file using a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++, make sure you use quotation marks "" around any folders with spaces in the name.
