Stay Zone is a temporary file drop zone for your iPhone. You can save any file — photos, videos, PDFs, documents — and set a timer for how long it stays. When the timer runs out, Stay Zone deletes it automatically. No manual cleanup needed.
- Tap the + button at the bottom right to import from your camera, photo library, or Files app.
- From any other app (Photos, Safari, Files, etc.), tap Share and choose Stay Zone from the share sheet. The file will appear in your Stay Zone instantly.
- Tap a file card to preview it full screen.
- You can change this behaviour in Settings → Tap Behaviour (Preview or Select mode).
- Every file has a countdown timer shown on its card (e.g. "11h 59m").
- When the timer reaches zero, Stay Zone automatically deletes the file — even if the app is closed.
- You can set how long files are kept in Settings → Retention Time (30m, 1h, 2h, 4h, 8h, or 12h).
- You can apply the retention time to new files only, or to all existing files.
- Long-press or enable Select mode (Settings → Tap Behaviour → Select) to select multiple files.
- Tap the trash icon to delete selected files.
- If Undo is enabled (Settings → Undo), a short countdown appears giving you a chance to undo the deletion.
- Retention Time: How long files are kept before auto-deletion.
- Apply Time To: Apply retention to new files only, or to all files.
- Undo: Enable a short undo window after deleting files.
- Tap Behaviour: Choose whether tapping a file previews it or selects it.
- Dark Mode: Toggle between dark and light appearance.
- Accent Color: Pick a custom accent colour for the app.
Q: Can I recover a file after it's been deleted?
A: No. Once a file is deleted — either by expiry or manually — it cannot be recovered. If Undo is enabled, you have a brief window to reverse a manual deletion before it's permanent.
Q: Why did my file disappear?
A: Your file's expiry timer ran out and Stay Zone deleted it automatically. You can increase the retention time in Settings before adding files.
Q: Can I change the expiry time for a specific file?
A: Not per file — the retention time in Settings applies globally. You can change it at any time and choose whether it applies to new files only or all current files.
Q: Does Stay Zone back up my files to the cloud?
A: No. All files are stored locally on your device only. Nothing is uploaded to any server or cloud service.
Q: The Share Extension isn't showing up in the share sheet. What do I do?
A: Open the share sheet in any app, scroll to the app row, tap "More", and make sure Stay Zone is enabled in the list.
Q: The app isn't deleting expired files. What should I do?
A: Open the app — it checks for expired files every time it launches and every 60 seconds while open. Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for Stay Zone in iPhone Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
Q: I deleted a file by accident. Can I undo it?
A: Only if Undo is enabled in Settings. Turn it on before deleting, and a countdown timer will appear giving you a brief chance to restore the file.
Files not appearing after sharing via Share Sheet:
- Open Stay Zone — the main app syncs files from the Share Extension when launched.
- Make sure you tapped "Import" in the Share Extension screen.
App not auto-deleting expired files in the background:
- Go to iPhone Settings → General → Background App Refresh and make sure it is turned on for Stay Zone.
Camera or Photos not accessible:
- Go to iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera / Photos and make sure Stay Zone has permission.
App feels slow with many files:
- Delete files you no longer need. Stay Zone is designed for temporary storage — keeping large numbers of files for extended periods may affect performance.
