WHAT IS SERTOMA?
What is SERTOMA you ask? Sertoma is an acronym meaning SERvice TO MAnkind.
Our Purpose is to meet the needs of our community through volunteer service.
Our Vision is to improve the quality of life for those in need by giving those who fall through the cracks a hand up not a hand out.
For the past several decades Sertoma has been here to help the citizens of St Johns County. Through our Second Time Around Thrift Store, fund raising events and your kind donations we have been able to with things like the following:
Creating Camp Endeavor. A summer camp where hearing impaired children can have fun and meet other kids like themselves in a fun safe environment.
Purchasing and installing the first Nights of Lights and maintaining it till the city took over.
Helping an individual get dentures. Which lead to her getting a job and since a promotion.
Setting up a previously homeless mother of 3, who had been sleeping in their car, with household goods after Home Again procured them an apartment.
Sertoma raised $160,000 for a liver transplant for a young boy.
We have helped a young family with their rent when one of their children had a tragic accident and one parent stayed home to care for the child could not work.
A hotel room was procured for a homeless man who had cancer surgery and needed to stay inside for a couple of weeks.
Catching up electric bills, paying for medications, providing Christmas dinners for seniors, collecting toys so every child has a memorable Christmas. These are only a small part of what we do and we could not do this without the support and donations of people like you who want to help make our community great.
