About Us
State of Art Winterguard is affiliated with Michigan State University's Spartan Marching Band Color Guard. Formed in 2007 by Peter Eichler and Orlando Suttles, the group grew from a student-led organization 'MSU Expressions.' MSU Expression was the first winterguard at the university. Founded in 1994, they competed in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit Collegiate class. Mostly student-run, their final season was 2006.
Starting in 2007, State of Art has built a name associated with creativity and excellence, including a national title (2009), 7 State titles (2007-2011, 2016, 2018) and top 15 national finishes 2008-2013.
