The statutes and policies of the State of Washington define your residency status. Many factors help determine if you meet the eligibility requirements for in-state residency tuition. To qualify for in-state residency, most students need to live in Washington for at least one year before classes start.

Residency-eligible military-affiliated students pay resident tuition and fees at all public colleges and universities in Washington. Additionally, they meet the residency requirements for Passport to Careers, State Work Study, the American Indian Endowed Scholarship, and the National Guard Postsecondary Education Grant. Students must also meet program requirements.

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program allows select non-resident students the opportunity to attend a participating university at a reduced tuition rate. Typically, the WUE program reduces non-resident tuition to 150% of the in-state rate for up to four years of study. The WUE will be calculated each year based on the annual in-state tuition rate. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the WUE award at Western is valued at over $15,000, which will significantly reduce tuition costs.

First-year applicants who are residents of Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), the Federated States of Micronesia (FM), Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Marshall Islands, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Republic of Palau, South Dakota, Utah, or Wyoming may be considered for the WUE at Western. A select group of our incoming first-year students from participating states are granted this tuition waiver based on their academic performance. Unlike many universities participating in the WUE program, we do not limit or restrict the majors students can pursue while enrolled at Western.

The State Legislature requires state community colleges, colleges and universities to waive all undergraduate tuition and fees for eligible dependents of eligible veteran or national guard member up to 200 quarter credits or equivalent semester credits.

A vast majority of universities, including American University, have a tuition and mandatory fee policy. With this type of policy, mandatory fees are assessed to all or groups of students in order to help defray associated costs not based on the actual usage of an individual student.

The Global Health Nursing graduate certificate program follows the same tuition rate as the degree program you are concurrently enrolled in (e.g., PCE per-credit rate for PCE DNP programs or resident/non-resident state tuition rates for PhD or DNP programs that are not run through PCE).

The only two states that come close to what Washington has done this year: Minnesota, which is cutting community-college tuition by 1 percent; and Ohio, where a budget plan would require colleges to propose ways to reduce student costs by 5 percent.

WUE Scholarships are competitive (not automatically awarded) and awarded based on a holistic review of your application for admission. Only about 30% of students from WUE-eligible states and territories will be offered the WUE Scholarship, but many more will receive the Provost Scholarship to recognize their academic success and help offset the cost of non-resident tuition. Note: Some states are considering programs to make in-state tuition-free for qualified residents. In the event that such programs are introduced, residents of those states will pay the in-state rate for our home state of Georgia.

OSU does participate in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE). The benefit is awarded competitively to a limited number of qualifying students as a scholarship. Non-resident tuition at OSU is not reduced based on the state of residence. Students awarded a WUE scholarship will be notified by the Scholarship Office and will see the estimated scholarship amount on their financial aid offer letter. Graduate tuition and fees can be found on the WSU Graduate School website. Tuition waivers for in-state and out-of-state are offered to teaching and research assistants and medical insurance is a benefit that comes with the assistantship.

It is expected that most assistantships will have the out-of-state tuition waived. For out-of-state U.S. citizens pursuing a PhD you may be awarded for a maximum of 1 year as long as you are working towards residency. For international students, this is 4 years. After that time, these waivers may be awarded but cannot be guaranteed.

The Wisconsin Tuition Promise provides up to four years of tuition and fee funding for undergraduate students coming from families earning less than $62,000 annually and enrolling at the 12 public universities other than UW-Madison in fall 2023.

Tuition amount is based on student residency status. To be classified or reclassified as residents for tuition and fee purposes, students must establish a bona fide domicile in the state of Washington primarily for purposes other than education for the period of one year immediately prior to classification as residents.

The GW School of Business offers merit-based fellowships to incoming students at the time of admission. While applying to graduate degree programs at GWSB, prospective students may opt in to be automatically considered for all fellowship award opportunities funded by the School of Business as well as various university-funded tuition awards administered by the Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships (OGSAF). Unless otherwise stated, no separate application is required.

Student Health and Wellness: Washington University has a student health and wellness fee designed to improve the health and wellness of the entire Washington University community. The fee of $308 is billed to the student tuition statement each semester. In addition, to protect the health of our entire community, the university requires all full-time degree-seeking students to have health insurance. Students either must purchase the Washington University Student Health Insurance Plan or prove that they have adequate coverage through another plan.
