Two Topics: My Research Upbringing in Statistics; Kaplan-Meier Paradigm of Right-Censoring.

Abstract Because this is a special series of seminars for students, I first briefly highlight my research upbringing in statistics and tell about scientists who affected my interest in statistics. Then I am discussing the for now classical paradigm of right-censoring formulated in JASA paper Kaplan and Meier (1958) ”Nonparametric Estimation with Incomplete Observations”, its developing over all the following years, and how the paradigm has affected the modern theory and methodology of nonparametric survival analysis. All used statistical notions and results will be explained.
