StartLights stores app preferences on your device, including:
Favorite team
Notification preferences
Time-format preference
Measurement-system preference
Spoiler-protection settings
Display and personalization settings
Cached Formula 1 calendar, standings, results, news, and widget data
Premium entitlement status
Local Reaction Game scores
Some information is shared between StartLights and its widgets through Apple App Groups.
StartLights uses PostHog to collect privacy-conscious, anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand which features are useful and improve the app.
Analytics may include:
Anonymous randomly generated analytics identifier
App version and build number
Operating-system version
General device category, such as iPhone, iPad, or Mac
Feature interactions and navigation events
Premium status
Favorite-team selection as a normalized team identifier
Time-format and measurement-system preferences
Notification-permission status
General race-week timing, such as days until the next race
Purchase-funnel events and normalized failure categories
We configure PostHog to disable:
Session replay
Automatic screen recording
Automatic interaction capture
Precise geolocation enrichment
Automatic push-notification content capture
We do not send analytics containing:
Your name or email address
Precise location or GPS coordinates
Game Center identity or player identifier
Notification content
News article titles
Full article or external URLs
Raw error messages, server responses, or stack traces
Advertising identifiers
Contacts, photos, or other personal files
We do not use analytics for advertising and do not sell personal data.
We use information to:
Display Formula 1 calendars, standings, race results, news, videos, and weather
Provide notifications and widgets
Remember your preferences
Personalize the app using your selected team
Enable and validate Premium features
Process and restore purchases
Understand anonymous feature usage
Diagnose normalized product failures
Improve reliability and user experience
StartLights may communicate with the following service providers:
PostHog processes anonymous product-usage analytics on our behalf. Analytics are sent to PostHog’s European infrastructure.
Apple processes App Store purchases, subscriptions, offer codes, Game Center features, notification permissions, and review requests under Apple’s own privacy policies.
RevenueCat may be used to validate purchases, restore purchases, and manage Premium entitlement status. RevenueCat receives purchase and entitlement information required to provide these services.
StartLights connects to external data providers to retrieve Formula 1 calendars, standings, results, news, videos, and weather. When connecting to these services, standard network information such as an IP address may be processed by the service provider as necessary to deliver the requested content.
These providers handle information under their respective privacy policies.
Premium purchases are:
Processed through Apple’s App Store
Validated through Apple and, where applicable, RevenueCat
Used to unlock Premium features
Associated with an anonymous entitlement identifier where required for purchase management
StartLights does not receive or store your complete payment-card information.
StartLights requests notification permission only when needed. Notification preferences are stored locally.
Analytics may record whether permission was granted or denied and whether a notification brought a user back to the app. We do not send notification content to PostHog.
You can change notification permissions at any time in your device’s system settings.
Widget information is stored locally and shared with StartLights through Apple App Groups. We do not track system-driven widget timeline refreshes.
Where technically reliable, StartLights may anonymously record an explicit widget interaction, such as opening the app from a widget. Widget content itself is not included in analytics.
Local preferences and cached content remain on your device until:
You change or reset the relevant setting;
The app replaces cached information; or
You delete the app and its associated data.
Anonymous analytics and purchase information may be retained by PostHog, Apple, and RevenueCat according to our service configuration and their applicable retention policies.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect information. However, no electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
You can:
Control notification access through system settings
Change app preferences at any time
Manage or cancel subscriptions through your App Store account
Restore eligible purchases
Remove locally stored data by deleting the app
Contact us to ask questions about analytics or request assistance with applicable privacy rights
Because StartLights analytics are anonymous and are not connected to your name or email address, we may be unable to associate a particular analytics record with you.
StartLights is not designed to collect personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect names, email addresses, precise locations, or other directly identifying information from children.
Service providers may process information in countries other than your country of residence. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for international data transfers.
We may update this Privacy Policy when StartLights or its service providers change. The revised policy will include an updated “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated through an app update or other appropriate notice.
