The 2024 Chinese STEAM and Culture Summer Academy is a 3-week program from July 1 to July 18, 2024. The program will offer 80 students, from kindergarten to 8th graders, hands-on experiences to understand that our ecosystems are affected by many factors, especially by human activities.
Aligning with the Build Back Better framework to combat global climate change, our top mission is to make our K-8 summer camp students raise awareness about the impact of global warming, which has caused the recent catastrophic climate change. Students will be introduced to clean energy and later pledge to advocate for using more green energy in their community.
Our theme: “Adventures in Energy: Plan For a Better Future,” with the essential question, “What can communities do to sustain their lifestyle while protecting natural resources and the environment?”. Students will learn about renewable and nonrenewable resources. The program consists of daily language, cultural, STEAM activities, field trips, and final presentations. Students will be from Prince George’s County and adjacent school districts in Maryland. Students will learn how people have been using different resources of energy in their daily lives and to become more energy-independent to join the effort to help protect their environment.
Green power is a subset of renewable energy. It represents those renewable energy resources and technologies that provide the greatest environmental benefit. Within the U.S. voluntary market, green power is defined as electricity produced from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, eligible biomass, and low-impact small hydroelectric sources. To qualify as green power, this renewable electricity must also go above and beyond what is otherwise required by mandate or requirement. In other words, green power is voluntary, or surplus to regulation. Customers often buy green power for its zero-emissions profile and carbon footprint reduction benefits.

The 2021 STARTALK Chinese STEAM & Culture Summer Academy will be held online synchronous classes, Maryland. Our Academy is a four-week program integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) into the learning of the Chinese language and culture. The program will offer 60 elementary school students an engaging experience with a focus on meaningful learning, “How to help to protect our environment.” The program is comprised of daily language, cultural, STEAM activities, field trips, and a final performance day. It is open to all students from kindergarten to fifth grade in Prince George's County and its neighborhood counties, Maryland.
Lessons will be taught in the model of the Chinese immersion way. Our theme is the continuation of our theme, “The Chesapeake Bay - A Home for Many, Part II" in which students continue to learn further about the Chesapeake Bay, the animals, and plants that depend on it, its environmental impact, and pollution solutions they can advocate in their communities. Our new focus on the endangered species in the Chesapeake Bay will help our students have a deeper understanding of their living environment. Throughout the four weeks of learning, students will understand that our ecosystems are affected by many factors, especially by human activities. They will also learn what can be recycled, reused, and reduced as well as how to recycle, reuse, and reduce in their daily life to help protect our own environment.
Our four-week immersion program will offer 60 elementary students an intense but fun learning experience focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and Mandarin Chinese. It is open to all current students from kindergarten to fifth grade in Prince George's County, Maryland and its neighboring areas. Students will be divided into four classes of 15 students according to their grade levels:
K - 1st grade, 2nd - 3rd grade, 4th - 5th grade.
