Online Teaching Principles

Welcome to my new website, which was created as the final capstone project for the California Virtual Campus-Online Educational Initiative @ONE Advanced Certificate in Online Teaching Principles. This Online Teaching Capstone Project is the culmination of several months of professional development courses, including the four required classes: Equity & Culturally Responsive Teaching, Humanizing Online Teaching & Learning, Digital Citizenship, and Dynamic Online Teaching. Although these classes are designed to focus on a specific online teaching principle, these five overarching principles are interconnected and therefore are thread throughout all of the @one classes.

• Effective online teachers are present within their course.
• Effective online teachers apply equitable methods to promote student access and success while acknowledging institutional obstacles.
• Effective online teachers respond to student needs and use data for continuous course improvement.
• Effective online teachers teach and model ethical online interaction, while helping students develop digital literacy that will poise them for success.
• Effective online teachers recognize ongoing professional development is a central component of their success.

The above online teaching principles are spotlighted on individual pages. Each page sets forth the implementation requirements for a particular principle and gives examples showing how the principle is applied. Using a marathon coaching analogy, I explain where I started: "The First Step", what I have been learning and working on: "The Training" and how I plan to utilize and build upon my new skills and knowledge: "In It for the Long Run."
