Thank you for joining our class. We enjoy watching the children grow and interact with each other. I can't wait to get to know you all better. I look forward to tailoring our activities to what the children need and respond best to. Our mantra is: "Monitor and adjust!"
We'll start with the goal of having our children be Tuneful, Beat-full, and Artful. We want them to be able to sing in tune, play and move to a steady beat, and to respond creatively to music.
See you on Friday morning!
To our old and new friends, we can't wait for our first class on Friday! I’d like to answer a question I get about using The Body Scale* to introduce solfege in class. This is the tuneful part of our three-part goal of the children becoming tuneful, beat-ful, and artful. By second grade, it would be ideal for the children to recognize the full do-re-mi scale, and to learn the hand motions for each note. In our class, we introduce do, mi, so, and la by touching our knees, hips, shoulders, and head. We also use Conversational Solfege for our second goal of becoming beat-ful, when we use our rhythm syllables (ta = quarter note, ti-ti = eighth note, ta-ah = half note, shhh = rest). As always, we want the children to become artful by expressing music through the instruments they play, and the dances they do to the masterworks.**
