Call for Papers
For many decades, information technologies have been at the center of innovation and transformation of business, the economy, and our society. Technological advances have always had two sides, one representing massive positive potential and the other posing severe threats and challenges. The newer generation of technologies---from digital platforms to augmented reality and metaverse to blockchains and NFTs to generative AI---are no different. WISE 2023 invites research submissions that offer fresh insights regarding the development, deployment, diffusion, and impact of information technologies, particularly in relation to their economic environment, incentives, and markets. This may involve analyzing how economic incentives shape the behavior of stakeholders within the information technology ecosystem, including firms, consumers, governments, and other actors, and examining the role of the economic context in which information technologies operate. We are interested in research on market structures, business models, organizational structures, regulatory frameworks and policy environments that lead to responsible, safe, and ethical deployment of technologies. This can also include investigating the effects and consequences of information technologies on various aspects of the economy and society, such as productivity, innovation, employment, market dynamics, as well as social, cultural, ethical, and policy implications. We are open to high-quality research based on a variety of methodologies (e.g., theoretical, empirical, and experimental) that cover the above topics, as well as other fundamental areas of research in the economics of information systems, including but not limited to:
Digital platforms
