Light is needed for photosynthesis. If the tree canopy is open (such as in the woodland around Longneck Lagoon) there is enough light to allow shrubs, grasses and an understorey of trees.
When the canopy is closed there is very filtered sunlight and consequently the vegetation would include ferns, lichens and mosses. Shrubs would have large leaves.
To measure the light intensity at Longneck Lagoon EEC, you will use the lux meter in your black case.
Turn the lux meter on by spinning the dial and select x100.
Remove the sensor cover and hold the light sensor parallel to the ground with the sensor facing up.
Press and release the hold button to stabilise your reading and remember to multiply the number by 100. The unit of measurement is lux.
Before putting your lux meter away, be sure to turn the dial to off and replace the cover.
