By the end of this lesson, students will demonstrate their ability to calculate weekly, fortnightly, monthly and yearly earnings. They will also apply their research of Australia’s tax bracket to calculate weekly, fortnightly and monthly deductions to pay.

Students use payscale.com to search for a job. They will find the average salary to calculate fortnightly, monthly, and weekly earnings by dividing net income by 26, 12 and 52, respectively.
Students will also be required to find the average hourly rate and multiple the value to find daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, and yearly earnings.
This information will be tabulated in table 3 of a class google doc that students will continue to complete in Lessons Four and Five.
Mid-Point (AFL): Monitor classroom. Ensure each group is on task and understands concepts being taught. Clarify misconceptions. Ask if students have made any interesting connections between ideas. Share these with the class.

Students will use the Australian tax bracket table and the simple tax calculator provided by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) to calculate how much tax is deducted from their assigned job in table 3 from class google doc . The teacher can explain/demonstrate a few related examples from their preferred textbook.
