The final component to this lesson was an art project. Students were given silk scarves, and they painted the animal they focused on during their informational writing project. First, students drew on a piece of paper what their project will look like. Students were instructed to draw their animal in their natural habitat. Once approved, they were given white construction paper and they redrew their piece largely on it. They traced their drawing with a sharpie.
Once they completed the first step, they were given their silk scarf. Their drawing on the consturction paper was taped under the scarf, and they traced with pencil their drawing. When complete, they received black puffy paint to go over their work.
Once their piece had the puffy paint, they began painting their scarf. An example of the final project is on the left.
