My name is Stacy Keligian and I have been working as an elementary school teacher for the last four years. I have my Bachelors of Arts in Integrated Educational Studies from Chapman University with minors in creative writing and journalism. In addition, I have my Masters of Science in Magazine Journalism from Boston University.
I have been an educator since 2015. During that time , I have taught students for small group intervention, worked as a general classroom teacher, and most recently, an itinerant teacher. Each of these teaching experiences has given me an opportunity to challenge myself as an educator and to work with a diverse group of students.
I have spent two years working in a second grade classroom through student teaching and long-term substitute teaching. In addition, I have taught through a shared contract in a 5th grade classroom. Beyond elementary school, I worked as a long-term substitute teaching in a freshman and high school English class.
In addition to general education classrooms, I worked as an intervention and support teacher for two years. My first year in this position, I was hired to start up a math intervention program at the school site. I worked closely with the general education teachers and the administration to streamline an intervention program, assess students, and create a schedule that worked best for all the teachers and the students. During my second year, I continued my work in math intervention, but I also started teaching reading intervention to students. That year, I served as the lead intervention teacher at my school site. This included completing school wide assessments for the school (Acadience testing), and administering math and reading assessments to students to determine if they qualified for intervention. Once the students that qualified were determined, I worked closely with the staff to complete a schedule for myself and the other intervention teachers. In addition, I served as the liason for communication between the intervention team, general education teachers, and the administration. During this time, I also worked as the 504 Coordinator.
Most recently, I have been working as a full-time itinerant teacher. This position is unique and has shown me how flexible as a teacher I am. In my position, I share a contract with two elementary schools and I support the school staff where needed. On average, my day to day schedule varies greatly depending where there is a need at each school. My job can range from working with the schools intervention team, to serving as the teacher in a special needs pre-school class, and filling in as a general education teacher.
