Philosophy & Vision
I am a 4th generation California native, and strongly committed to the welfare of The State of California and San Benito County. My grandfather, a World War II vet, operated the sand and gravel quarry in San Juan Bautista before he passed. My family has over a generation of hard work and passion invested in San Benito County.
I believe that less government intervention is good, and I do not support the concepts of a permission based society- we should not have to ask permission for those things that are our rights. Government exists by the consent of the people in order to protect the basic rights and promote the common good of society. For over 15 years I have regularly attended County Supervisor meetings, City Council meetings, Planning Commission and Council of Government meetings. Politics is not my career. Rather, I have dedicated a lifetime to community service and public safety. I have the experience and training necessary to lead our county into the future it deserves!
Functional Principles for Life
Honor. Integrity. Accountability. I live my ethics to the best of my ability every day. I work hard to honor the life I am blessed with. I act with integrity in all matters and I hold myself accountable for my successes as well as those times when I fall short. Respect for myself and respect for others is critical to honor our diversity, celebrating our unique gifts and abilities.
I intend to further create a community we all want to live in, with respect and without judgment- each of us, secure knowing that we are enough. To do this, I have been committed to volunteering in the community. I am actively involved as a volunteer at the Community Food Bank, on the Opioid Task Force and two terms on the Civil Grand Jury. After 20+ years, and still commuting regularly, my work and volunteer experience has given me the breadth and depth of knowledge necessary to deeply understand the needs of our community. We are each here for a reason and purpose. Safety, security, a good education allows us all to pursue our goals, dreams and intentions.
Moving Forward
San Benito County, Hollister, San Juan Bautista, Tres Pinos, Panoche, New Idria and even Picacho- we are uniquely situated and primed for amazing opportunities. I am a member of the Farm Bureau, and I support our agricultural community. Equally I recognize the need for sustainability by growing our tax base by removing barriers to industry AND small businesses. Sadly we have inherited many negative issues- most obviously is our deteriorating infrastructure. The roads, sanitation and electricity are all nearing or beyond capacity. The elementary schools and Hollister High School are overfull, and desperate for staff. Investigations by the Civil Grand Jury have revealed patterns of mismanagement and a complete lack of accountability. Our only local hospital with emergency services is in the middle of bankruptcy court. I have met regularly with community leaders and members working together to find the best solution to keep Hazel Hawkins Hospital open.
San Benito County demands and deserves courageous leadership, willing to take risks and dream big, to have vision as well as a plan. To put the community first!
