About Stacey

Stacey's Music Journey:

  • 1998 - Started piano lessons
  • 2005 - Started playing for church
        • Started teaching young pupils how to sing, play musical instruments, reciting verses with movement and liturgical dancing
  • 2008 - took Music as an external IEB subject for Matric
        • began teaching for Jenny Peter's Piano School
  • 2010 - Started Lessons with Mrs Margaret Cleghorn
        • Began to teach Theory classes for the Cleghorn studio pupils 3 times a week
        • Started the Academy
  • 2011 - Completed her Grade 8 Piano Practical exam under the tutelage of Mrs Margaret Cleghorn
        • Studied piano pedagogy (how to teach) from Mrs Cleghorn
        • Entered first pupils for Trinity College London Exams
        • Began to teach Matric pupils for IEB Internal and External Music
  • 2016 - Teaches herself the new Theory syllabus and passes her Grade 8 Theory exam with Merit
  • 2017 - Begins to teach one of her first pupils, how to teach others


About the Academy

  • 2010 - Opens in the original premises with 3 pupils
  • 2013 - Academy moves to current premises in Glenvista
  • 2014 - Academy has grown to nearly 30 pupils
        • First Music Afternoon at an external venue
  • 2016 - Academy has grown to nearly 30 pupils
  • 2017 - Academy has to employ a second teacher

About the Lessons

Music Education Areas:

Piano Lessons are taught at an international level, by taking learning to play the piano as only one part of the entire music Education as a whole. This is done by ensuring the following areas of Music are taught:

  • Improvisation
  • Composition
  • Technique
  • Sight Reading
  • Theory and Harmonisation
  • Aural and Visual Analysis
  • Musicality (Rhythm, tone production, style, etc)
  • Notating Music on the computer, and working with other artworks to create music


Age Groups:

The following ages and groups of pupils are taught:

  • Ages 3 - 5 (Wunderkeys)
  • Age 5 - university level (Trinity College London syllabus as a basis, as well as other music at appropriate levels)
  • Grade 10 - Matric (Music Theory classes, specifically for those taking Music as an IEB subject)
  • Adults (This is on a selective basis)
