I am honored to begin another exciting school year at River Mill Academy! I have had the privilege of being part of the RMA family for nearly 19 years. During that time, River Mill has become much more than a workplace. It is a community, a family, and a place that has profoundly shaped both my professional journey and my personal life.
My educational journey includes studies at:
Appalachian State University
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Campbell University
My degrees include:
Bachelor’s Degree in English – concentration in Southern American Writers
Bachelor’s Degree in Communication – focus in Interpersonal Communication
Master of Arts in Communication – concentration in Family Studies
Master of Arts in Teaching
I currently teach:
✔️ 6th Grade Language Arts
✔️ 6th Grade Social Studies
✔️ 6th - 8th Grade Reading Challenge Elective
River Mill Academy holds a very special place in my heart because all four of my children attended RMA. Watching them grow, learn, and succeed has been one of my greatest blessings.
I am incredibly proud of the paths they have taken:
Brittany graduated from Wake Forest University with degrees in Statistics and Anthropology and earned her MBA from the Wake Forest School of Business
Grey earned a degree in Criminal Justice and his MBA from Campbell University
Avery graduated from UNC–Chapel Hill with a Business degree and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Accounting at UNC-Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)
Nataley is a senior at Clemson University, earning a double degree in Marketing and Management, with plans to continue toward both an MBA and MIB (she spent part of the summer studying in Paris, Brussels, and London, and intends to spend a graduate year studying in Paris)
River Mill Academy played an integral role in their educational success, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
Outside of school, my life is filled with family, laughter, and a little bit of chaos thanks to our two beloved fur babies:
🐾 Bleu, our spoiled Aussiedoodle, who may actually be a human disguised as a dog
🐾 Grizzly, our devoted Australian Shepherd, who works tirelessly to protect us from dangerous leaves, suspicious shadows, and the occasional unlucky squirrel
I am also a very proud Granny to two wonderful grandsons:
💙 Huxley, at 2 1/2 years old, delights in building with his tools, playing with "doggies" (Paw Patrol), and being the BEST big brother ever!
💙 Oakley, at almost 8 months old, lights up every room with his smile and infectious laughter. He is fascinated by his brother and is the spitting image of his Mommy!
Both boys have completely captured my heart and keep this Granny smiling and on her toes!
I believe:
Every student has the ability to learn, grow, and become the best version of themselves
My mission:
Equip students with the skills, confidence, and critical thinking abilities they need to succeed not only in Language Arts and Social Studies, but across all content areas and beyond the classroom walls
I strive to:
Build strong relationships with students
Encourage confidence and perseverance
Create engaging and relevant learning experiences
Help students discover their strengths
Prepare students for the future
*I believe in our school, our dedicated staff, and our shared commitment
to help students succeed*
I am excited for the opportunities this new school year will bring and look forward to the learning, growth, and successes we will share together!
