Students have been sent an introductory video (available to the right) which introduces the options process. Students had 3 days to watch the video and respond to a short questionnaire.
Throughout this week students will be emailed video presentations from the following subjects: business, media, ASDAN and photography. Students are then asked to complete follow up quizzes. It is important all students watch these presentations as these are subjects they do not study at Key Stage 3. The presentations for these subjects are available on each of the individual subject pages of this website.
The details of specific courses and curriculum information will be available via our dedicated options website. This is the first year we are offering an online options platform format and we anticipate it to be more informative and easier to navigate than a traditional booklet. It will allows for more materials to be available to help students make more informed choices. This website will be available to students and parents from Friday 15th January AMEND. The link will be sent via a parent communication during the day. It will also be available for students via the student website.
On Friday we will also send home the main presentation to parents. This is a message from Ms Lowney & Mr Laker with details about the curriculum, options process and how to submit choices. It is advisable to watch this presentation with students before proceeding with any choices.
The purpose of the Year 9 parent's evening is to enable all parents and students access to conversations regarding academic progress. Information regarding parent's evening has been sent earlier this year by Mr Laker, and these appointments will open up for booking on: DATE. For any questions regarding this event please get in touch with Mr Laker: lakerm@sta-worthing.com
In light of not being able to run options evening, I have allocated several blocks of time which will be available via our virtual parents evening reporting system, where the senior leadership team will book 20 minute slots to discuss any options queries with every year 9 student and their parents. The frequently asked questions page of this website will offer guidance as well. All SEND students will have a secure time slot with either our SENDCO Mrs Spoor, or a member of the SEN team, to discuss their child’s KS4 curriculum. Information on how these can be booked will be available soon.
During the week commencing Monday 25th January students will receive an email with access to the online options form. Students will need to complete the form using their school email address. Students who do not have access to the internet will be posted paper forms and pre-addressed envelopes. Parents will be emailed a copy of their child's options, and must then approve their choices by completing the online form that will be sent alongside their child's choices.
The choices should be submitted by students by DATE and time.
We will send initial preferences to parents for approval on DATE.
Approves will need to be completed by DATE.
During the latter part of the summer term (usually the end of June) students will be notified of their allocated options via email. Students who may need to reconsider options due to subject clashes and/or over subscription will be asked to do so at this time.
It is essential that students are regularly checking their student emails, as any important notices will be distributed in this way. Any notices will also be shared via this website and the student website, so students should ensure they engage with their emails and tutor sessions to ensure they are accessing all of the information.
