Academia is not just about academical discussions, it is also about academicians, the people behind the research. In its rather short history, ST4 has not only been tremendously successful in creating an ambience conducive to learning without inhibition but also in building a community with a strong sense of camaraderie. In this spirit, we, the organizers, this year as well have arranged a panel discussion on an aspect that is indeed extremely pertinent in academia, and beyond it as well.
At the end of the 1st week’s lectures, we had a panel discussion on "Gender Gap: Academia and Beyond"
Science is supposed to be an activity open to all people regardless of their gender. However, the percentages of women scientists remain shockingly low and there is a significant gender gap at all levels.
The panel will discuss the various aspects of the gender gap like what is the nature and extent of the gender gap, why should practising scientists care? What is the way forward? etc. The format of the program was organic, with constant interaction between panelists, chair and the audience.
The panel session was recorded with consent of all panelists and participants and the recording with minimal editing (once again with consent of all involved) can be accessed on this link.
