The ministries we have available at St. Patrick in Lenox are: Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, lectors, music, altar servers, ushers, and digital tech.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHCS)
The Extraordinary ministers of the Holy Communion serve to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass or to the sick and homebound when bishops, priests, or deacons—the ordinary ministers—are unable to do so due to absence, illness, or large congregations.
In St. Patrick’s, EMs routinely receive sufficient spiritual, theological, and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and reverence. Also, in all matters, they are to follow the guidance of the diocesan bishop ( Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion Under Both Kinds for the Dioceses of the United States of America, NDRHC, no. 28). EMs must be confirmed, practicing Catholics, in good standing with the Church.

Lector
A lector in the Catholic Church proclaims the Word of God during liturgical celebrations, especially at Mass, bringing Scripture to life for the congregation with clarity, reverence, and understanding. This sacred Catholic ministry is more than reading – it’s about delivering Scripture so that God’s people can truly hear and embrace it.
Lecturing is a ministry of voice and presence. When a lector steps to the ambo, they bring Scripture to life, helping the congregation hear and feel God’s message: every word, pause, and inflection matters. He or she “may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer, and in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between the readings." (GIRM 88)
Our parish community usually requires 2 trained lectors for each Sunday Mass. As preparation for lectors, they are invited to meditate on the Readings of the Day before serving. Lectors must be confirmed Catholics and in good standing with the Church.

Music Ministry
Music ministry in St. Patrick’s exists to glorify God. This ministry uses sacred music to enhance worship, foster community, and deepen the faithful’s relationship with God. Music ministry is not about performance for its own sake, but about serving the liturgy and supporting the assembly’s prayer, affirming the words that “whoever sings, prays twice.”
Our music ministry seeks to create unity, joy, and enthusiasm in worship and point the faithful toward Christ. Cantors and accompanists are leadership roles in the Church, and these skilled individuals support the sung prayer of the assembly.
St. Patrick's Choir - Sings at Christmas, Easter, Sundays and other Holy Days of Obligation masses.

Altar Servers
An altar server assists the priest and deacon during Catholic liturgical celebrations, helping with tasks at the altar and participating actively in the Mass. Being an altar server is considered a spiritual vocation and a form of ministry. Servers are seen as collaborators of the priest, contributing to the solemnity and beauty of the Mass while learning to serve God with humility and devotion.
Our parish has Altar Servers (boys and girls) who start after their first Holy Communion and continue for as long as we can keep them. They must receive proper formation, including instruction on the Mass, the names and uses of liturgical objects, and the functions of the server.
All people of goodwill are welcome and those who think they may desire to serve are encouraged to do so. This is an important role and one that is done with dignity and reverence.

Ushers
Ushers assist in the ministry of hospitality by welcoming the stranger and helping the faithful find seating as they come to worship. They assist in communal action by taking up the collection, recruiting gift bearers to take up the gifts, instructing the faithful who take the gifts to the altar and directing the Communion procession when needed.
Ushers handle the tasks of hospitality and administration that ensure a dignified flow of the liturgy. Therefore, a sense of cheerful service and good timing are essential to allow for both reverent silence and purposeful action. Ushers are prepared to get emergency assistance if anyone present needs it.
Ushers serve as an outward sign of Christ’s hospitality by welcoming those coming to worship, assisting with seating, receiving the offerings, guide the faithful to receive Holy Communion, and address any emergencies that might arise. Adults and high school students are encouraged to volunteer for this ministry.

Digital Service
In Catholic liturgy, digital services refer to the use of technology such as live-streaming, online Mass platforms, mobile apps, and digital projections to make worship accessible beyond the physical church, while aiming to preserve the spirit of the liturgy. The Church teaches that the faithful are called to be present in body, voice, and heart. Digital services aim to support this by allowing participation through live video, audio, and interactive tools, though they cannot fully replace the sacramental reality of being in the same place.
In our parish, digital projector/screen is used to display hymns, readings, and liturgical texts, to enhance participation and are used in accordance with liturgical guidelines.
