December's Kaleidoscope: A Symphony of Learning Beyond Boundaries

December, for most, shimmers with festive cheer – twinkling lights, joyous carols, and the sweet aroma of baked treats. But at school, amidst the tinsel and twinkling lights, a different kind of magic unfolds – the magic of learning unbound by textbooks and transformed into a captivating kaleidoscope of experiences. This December, through the lens of activity-based learning, as championed by the National Education Policy, our classrooms bloomed into vibrant studios, bustling bazaars, and even miniature space stations. Gone were the days of rote memorization and passive notetaking. Instead, December saw our young Einsteins constructing miniature volcanoes to understand chemical reactions, budding Picassos transforming old sarees into vibrant tapestries, and budding Jane Austen's scripting their own holiday mysteries while learning the art of storytelling. The annual science fair wasn't just about cardboard volcanoes and baking soda eruptions; it was a platform for budding innovators to showcase their solutions to real-world problems, from water conservation to sustainable waste management.

The December carnival transformed into a vibrant realm where students not only embraced essential life skills but also honed their flair for marketing and teamwork, turning classrooms into bustling marketplaces. Simultaneously, our annual play wasn't a mere scripted affair adorned with costumes; it unfurled as an odyssey of self-discovery. Students fearlessly ventured beyond their comfort zones, immersing themselves in the richness of language, expression, and collaborative creativity, creating a spectacle that transcended conventional boundaries. This December, amidst the festive fervor, we witnessed the blossoming of young minds not just academically, but holistically. We saw leadership skills emerge as students organized events, communication skills flourish as they presented their projects, and problem-solving abilities blossom as they navigated challenges. We saw collaboration replace competition, creativity trump conformity, and the joy of learning transcend the confines of traditional classrooms.

This is the true magic of December, not just in the baubles and bells, but in the transformative power of activity-based learning. It's about celebrating the National Education Policy, not just in words, but in action. It's about reminding ourselves that education is not about filling buckets, but igniting sparks – and December, this year, provided the perfect tinderbox. So, as we bid farewell to December and step into the new year, let's carry this spirit of active learning with us. Let's remember that every classroom can be a wonderland of discovery, every project an opportunity for exploration, and every student a budding genius waiting to bloom. 19th SAMMAN DIWAS & 27th Rakt Daan Shivir

The 'Samman Diwas' was organized by Salwan Education Trust to honour the indomitable courage, duty, dedication, selfless spirit and strong resolve of our brave soldiers in the Armed Forces. The 19th 'Samman Diwas' was held on December 2, 2023, at Salwan Public School, Gurugram. The Chief Guest for the event was the Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Aide De Camp and Smt. Archana Pandey, President of Army Wives Welfare Association. The Guest of Honour Major Gen C G Muralidharan, Commandant Base Hospital Delhi Cantt was present to inaugurate the Rakt Daan Shivir and the Guest of Honour, Lieutenant General Bhavneesh Kumar, Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding Delhi joined the programme. Shri Shiv Dutt Salwan Ji, Chairman Emeritus of Salwan Education Trust and the Chairman of our school also attended the event.

The program began with the welcome of the Chief Guest, a Guard of Honour by NCC cadets contingent marching to the tune played by the school band. Sir paid homage to the sacrifices of the martyred heroes for the nation's security and peace at the replica of the war memorial. In his address, the Chief Guest encouraged youth to serve the country in their respective fields, commended the trust for organizing blood donation drives, and praised the vibrant cultural presentations by students.

‘Cricket Match at Salwan: Gurugram Triumphs Over Mayur Vihar’

The Inter-School cricket match on Dec 8, 2023, at Salwan Public School showcased spirited play between SPS Gurugram and SPS Mayur Vihar. SPS Gurugram set a target of 158 runs, securing a commendable 157/2. Despite a competitive match, SPS Mayur Vihar scored 113/6, with Gurugram emerging victorious by 44 runs. Anubhav Amlan’s (SPSG) unbeaten 72 runs earned him Player of the Match, while Divyansh Mittal (SPSG) was recognized as Man of the Match, and Aarav Kumar (SPSG) as the Best Bowler. In the dazzling realm of numbers, the Interhouse Maths Tambola Competition unfolded its mathematical tapestry at Salwan Public School. The enchanting event, held on December 6, 2023, for Class IX and December 7, 2023, for Class XI, transformed the traditional Tambola game into a creative symphony of mathematical statements. Kushagra Dwiwedi from Class IX B claims the top spot and class XI E prodigy Varunika Singh emerged victorious in the Tambola competition.

Mathemania 2023: A Symphony of Mathematical Brilliance Unveiled

DAV Public School organized an enchanting mathematical spectacle, Mathemania, spanning from December 4 to December 15, 2023. ‘Eternal Echoes: Salwan's Triumph in the Geeta Chanting Odyssey’

The Geeta chanting competition, organized by the Chinmaya Mission, was based on the fourth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, focusing on the knowledge of Karma Sannyasa Yoga. The competition was conducted in three rounds, and in the final round, Krishnav Taneja from Class VC and Nairanjana Radhika from Class VD of Salwan Public School received accolades. Both the students were honored with merit awards. The distinguished guest present at the program, Swami Prakashananda Maharaj, shed light on the art of living. Thus, the conclusion of the Gita Competition was a beautiful experience filled with memorable moments.

‘Dharohar Splendour: A Tapestry of Legacy in the Inter-School Heritage Extravaganza’

We are delighted to announce that our students Arnav Johri of class XI and Keshav Kalra of class IX have bagged the 1st position in the Inter-School Heritage Quiz Competition ‘Dharohar’ organized at SD Adarsh Vidyalaya, Sector 47, Gurugram on 29th December. The competition aimed to explore and test students' abilities through inquiry, initiative, imagination, and innovation. Focused on Indian culture and heritage, the quiz covered topics like National symbols, Wildlife, National parks, Dance & Music, Art & Literature, Monuments, Festivals, Mythology and religion, Indian Vegetation, and Wildlife. On a vibrant morning of December 18th, 2023, Class 1 presented a captivating assembly, "Nature Trackers," highlighting the impact of human actions on our environment. Commencing with a soulful prayer, Thought of the Day, and Word of the Day, the students engaged in a thought-provoking role play depicting the alarming state of our planet due to pollution and human activities. In a mesmerizing tribute to Srinivasa Iyengar Ramanujan, Grades I and II dazzled in the Intra-class Mathematics Presentation, 'Math Movement’, conducted on December 22, 2023. Exploring the beauty of mathematical concepts through captivating dance, students seamlessly fused patterns, shapes, sequences, and numbers into their performances. In order to enlighten the importance of the planet we live on ; a special assembly was conducted by the students of Mont II Tulip on the topic ‘Save Mother Earth ‘ on 23rd December in D Block Basement. The assembly aimed at sensitizing one, on how we are polluting our planet, and the ill - effects of global warming . The students showcased two small skits on how we can keep our Mother Earth greener and plastic free. The assembly concluded with a pledge to make Mother Earth , a better place to live in .

On December 18th, 2023, an online Christmas exchange was organized for the students of class V, Salwan Public School, Gurugram, and Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School (CCPS), fostering global connections. Principals initiated a conversation, facilitating the exchange of traditions, adding cultural understanding. Students shared unique Christmas customs, fostering appreciation for global diversity.  Mathematics Marvel: Celebrating Srinivas Ramanujan's Legacy

On December 19, 2023, Salwan Public School, Gurugram participated in the collaborative National Mathematics Day event at Delhi Technological University. Enriching experiences included panel discussions, lectures, workshops, and an interactive exhibition. Ms. Rashmi Malik, Principal of Salwan Public School, Gurugram contributed as a panelist, discussing "Improving Learning Outcomes in Mathematics Classroom," while Dr. Sanjana Jaisinghani shared insights on "Innovative Learning Pedagogy in Mathematics." The day culminated with an invigorating quiz, creating a splendid and profoundly useful learning experience.

 National Mathematics Day Workshop: A Journey into Ramanujan's World

On December 22, 2023, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, in collaboration with the Department of Elementary Education, hosted a National Mathematics Day workshop featuring distinguished speakers. In Session 1, Dr. T.V. Venkateswaran, Scientist- F, Ph.D., PG diploma in S&T Communication, shared insights into Srinivasa Ramanujan's life and contributions, including the famous Ramanujan number 1729 and the intriguing sum of natural numbers to -1/12. A documentary on Ramanujan by Vigyan Prasar Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune added depth to the exploration.

Session 2, led by Dr. Jonaki B Ghosh, Associate Professor in the Dept. of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi   offered a hands-on workshop. Participants delved into the Ramanujan House Number problem, exploring diverse solving methods like continued fractions and Pells equation. The session also unraveled the secrets of Magic Squares, connecting them to birthdates and Ramanujan's special formula. The workshop provided an enriching experience, with interactive sessions and engaging discussions that deepened participants' understanding of mathematical concepts. The diverse topics covered left a lasting impression, making the workshop an insightful and inspiring journey into the world of mathematics.

Mastering Accountancy: Workshop at KR Mangalam School, Gurugram

KR Mangalam School Gurugram hosted a Class XII Accountancy workshop on Dec 15, 2023. Dr. G S Grewal, Chartered Accountant and Pracademic, Author of Accountancy Books, emphasized logical approaches, highlighting the importance of written practice and conceptual clarity, especially for MCQs. The workshop covered partnership, share issues, and ratio analysis, with active participant engagement. The event concluded with gratitude to Dr. Grewal, leaving attendees enriched with valuable knowledge and exam strategies.

On December 26, 2023, students from classes IX and XI explored Museo Camera in Gurugram. The museum showcased the evolution of cameras, highlighting key moments in photography history, from the 1800s to today's advanced technology. The visit covered influential figures, famous brands, and the transition from film to digital. Displaying old cameras and explaining photography basics, the museum emphasized the skill and creativity behind this art form, offering a deep dive into its rich past and cultural significance.

Salwan Public School hosted a Photography Skill Development Workshop on December 28, 2023, featuring acclaimed experts Shri Avinash Aggarwal, Professional Photographer based in Noida and Shri Hiroo Keswani, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India. The workshop, divided into theory and practice, explored light, exposure, composition, and camera settings. Students applied their newfound knowledge by capturing moments on the school campus, receiving valuable feedback. Embarking on an adventurous trip to Vishalgarh Farms near Tikli on December 26 and 27, 2023, primary wing students engaged in a journey of resilience and camaraderie. Guided by enthusiastic counselors, they tackled obstacle courses, scaled walls, and conquered challenges that left lasting memories and boosted self-confidence. From laughter-filled teamwork to navigating rope courses, the expedition was a blend of adrenaline rushes and serene reflections along nature trails. Under the guidance of experienced instructors prioritizing safety, the day culminated in a reluctant return, marking an unforgettable crucible of friendship, teamwork, and self-discovery.

On the 24th of December, the staff members of Salwan Public School embarked on an enriching team-building trip to Vishal Garh Farms. The atmosphere resonated with spirited camaraderie against the backdrop of lush green surroundings. From dawn to dusk, the day unfolded in shared laughter, culminating in a delectable feast that tantalized taste buds.
