Highlights

Savannah State University's College of Education strives to produce graduates who embrace dynamic educational changes that encompass technological innovations, diversity, and global environments, and that they have the intellectual capacity to teach all children to be productive citizens in a global community. To this end, the College and its faculty are committed to on-going research that informs educational practice, exemplary teaching that addresses the needs of all learners, collaborative partnerships that promote outreach activities to P-12 schools and to those in other disciplines. It is through intentional design and implementation that COE EPPs are Standards-aligned, Assessment focused, Integrated with technology, and use researched-based pedagogy that embed Learner-driven outcomes for all students.

2021

Dr. Kisha Cunningham Aites served as a competitive event judge for the 2021 National Technology Student Association (TSA) Conference, June 2021. This virtual conference, June 1-25, 2021, is the capstone of a year in which TSA competitions, along with most learning experiences, were delivered and implemented virtually. TSA enhances personal development, leadership, and career opportunities in (STEM), whereby members apply and integrate science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through intracurricular activities and competitions.

Dr. Kisha Cunningham Aites and several STEM interns facilitated a STEM Experience for SSU Upward Bound STEM WEEK Program May 24th-27th. Students received an UNO R3(Arduino compatible), a breadboard, and all needed components. They also received access to an online electronics course per project. Students gained hands on learning experience with UNO R3 (arduino compatible) Microcontrollers, Breadboards, Piezo Buzzers, Light Emitting Diodes (LED), Ultrasonic Sensors, Accelerometers, 7-Segment Displays, LCD screens, Microphone Modules, Temperature Humidity Sensors, LED Matrix’s, Photoresistors, Buttons, and Jumper Wires.

Dr. Kisha Cunningham Aites participated in the ITEEA Authorized Trainer Institute (ATI), May 21-23, 2021. This 3-Day workshop certifies you to become an Authorized Teacher Effectiveness Coach (ATEC) for the state in which you reside. Dr. Aites engaged in Engineering byDesign training, particularly in the area of Foundations of Technology. Pre-Service Teachers in the College of Education, Noyce Teaching Scholars and Graduates, and In-Service Teachers will be engaged in a 4-week Engineering byDesign training that will be offered virtually July 12th-August 5th. This will include 2-weeks training for middle school courses to include Exploring Technology, Inventions and Innovations, Technological Systems, and Engineering for All. The high school coursework will include Foundations of Technology, Advanced Design Applications, Technological Design, and Engineering Design.

Robert Noyce Scholars (April Cofer, Jasmine Brown 18’) College of Education Pre-Service Teacher (Jeremiah Bundrage), and In-service Math Teacher (Raven Davis) alongside Dr. Kisha Cunningham Aites facilitated a STEM Experience with students participating in the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. STEAMFEST on March 27th. During the STEM Experience, students brought simple machines and hydraulics to life. They built four simple kits which demonstrated the platform lifter, scissor lift, cherry picker, and excavator.
