economics, policy, justice || energy, environment, climate

My name is Sam. I'm an Assistant Professor of environmental economics at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability (UM SEAS). My research, teaching, and writing are aimed at the design of equitable and efficient environmental, energy, and climate policy. I study energy, transportation, air, and water, with particular attention to policy and justice considerations. I teach courses on these subjects to graduate students as well as undergraduates. Since 2021, I've served as a member of the Governor of Michigan's Council on Climate Solutions.

I live in Detroit. I'm into basketball (Celtics, then Pistons), cooking, gardening, and playing the violin.
