Biography
Dr. Donghyuk Jung is an assistant professor in the School of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at Korea University since 2022. His primary research interests lie in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of infrastructure systems through the use of advanced structural materials. In particular, he plans to build on his background in the structural/seismic design of reinforced concrete (RC) structures and smart materials/systems to develop durable, high-performance mitigation techniques for multi-hazard scenarios and extreme climate-related deterioration.
Dr. Jung obtained his Ph.D. in 2018 and M.S. in 2012 in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his graduate studies, he extensively worked on the seismic retrofitting and repairing of RC columns using shape memory alloys (SMAs), a class of smart materials with unique thermo-mechanical properties. He also developed a new hybrid simulation framework called material testing integrated (MTI) simulation that can be used to rigorously assess the impact of material- and component-level modifications on system performance. He completed his B.S. in Architectural Engineering at Korea University in 2010. After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Jung had a postdoctoral position at Seoul National University in 2019. Before coming to Korea University, he served as an assistant professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Pusan National University from 2019 to 2022.
