The Small Scale Responsible Fisheries Training workshops are designed to be facilitated by members of the community that have been trained to deliver the content, engage in discussions and run exercises with the communities. The facilitators are nominated by the steering committee.
The first "Train the Trainer" took place in Cape Town for Western Cape and Northern Cape facilitators. It was attended by 8 facilitators who are now empowered to deliver the training content to their communities and other small scale fishing communities. It was a successful event, where the trainee facilitators were not only able to boost their experience and knowledge but were also able to interact with other small scale fishing community members from far ends of the province and share their experiences. Some of these facilitators have already successfully run their first courses and we are excited to have them as part of our team.
A "Train the Trainer" event took place in Port St Johns for the Eastern Cape facilitators. It was attended by 12 potential facilitators from all over the Eastern Cape. This training was primarily conducted in Xhosa, the dominant language of the area. This event was also attended by representatives from SAUFF who helped with the coordination of the event.
The KZN "Train-the-Trainers" event was held on the 11th May 2017 and attended by 7 potential facilitators from all across KwaZulu-Natal. The day was hosted by The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence.
