As a disciple of Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj, Srila Bhakti Niloy Sajjan Goswami Maharaj was deeply influenced by his guru's teachings and spiritual practices. Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj was a direct disciple of Jagadguru Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur also known as Lion Guru, one of the most influential spiritual leaders in the Gaudiya Vaishnav tradition, known for his efforts to revive and spread the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the modern world.
Srila Bhakti Niloy Sajjan Goswami Maharaj was known for his deep spiritual insight, unwavering devotion, and tireless service; he played a significant role in the spread of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Under the guidance and instruction of his guru (Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj), Srila Bhakti Niloy Sajjan Goswami Maharaj was entrusted with the important mission of preaching and establishing a Gaudiya Math in the Northern part of Bengal.
This region, rich in spiritual heritage, was seen as a fertile ground for spreading the teachings of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj recognized the potential impact of establishing a strong spiritual center there. With determination and faith, Srila Bhakti Niloy Sajjan Goswami Maharaj embarked on this mission, focusing his efforts on Siliguri, a key city in the region. Through his dynamic preaching, he inspired many people to embrace the path of bhakti, attracting devotees and supporters from all walks of life. His efforts culminated in the establishment of a Gaudiya Math in the year 1955 in Siliguri on the auspicious occasion of GuruPurnima (Vyasa Purnima), which quickly became a hub for spiritual activities, attracting devotees not only from the local area but from distant places as well.
When Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj learned of this successful endeavor, he was overjoyed and deeply pleased with the dedication and achievement of his disciple (Srila Bhakti Niloy Sajjan Goswami Maharaj). In recognition of the spiritual significance of the area and the efforts of Srila Bhakti Niloy Sajjan Goswami Maharaj, he named the new center "Sri Sri Narottam Gaudiya Math," in honor of Srila Narottam Thakur, a great acharya and preacher who had also spread the teachings of Lord Chaitanya in that region.
