Timeline

1954

  • Sacramento State College fielded its first football team in the Fall of 1954 only two years after leaving the Sacramento City College for it's current location.

1955

  • The marching band was started in the fall semester of 1955 under the direction of Dr. Norman J. Hunt.

  • They performed at their first game on October 22nd, 1955 as the Hornets faced UC Santa Barbara.

  • The new band, which was also the Sacramento State College Symphonic Orchestra, numbered around 50 performers and played at all home football games and rallies.

1956

  • The marching band debuted their new uniforms!

1962

  • The marching band went inactive

1966

  • Ronald A. Holloway appointed the Director of Bands including the marching band

  • The band goes by the CSUS Marching Musicians

1967

  • The marching band was the Official Marching and Ceremonial Band Governor Ronald Reagan's initial inauguration

1968

  • Performed half time show for the Junior Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA

1981

  • Dr. Jack Foote appointed the Director of Athletic Bands

1985

  • The SSMB performed Pregame for the San Francisco 49er's

1986

  • SSMB Debut Aussie Uniforms

1996

  • Jeffrey Edom appointed as Director of Athletic Bands

1998

  • Debut of new uniforms with the University State Seal Logo

2007

  • Debut new Uniforms with the University Flame logo

  • Timothy Smith appointed as Interim Director of Athletic Bands

2008

  • Dr. Clay Redfield appointed the Director of Athletic Bands

2018

  • Santiago Sabado appointed the Director of Athletic Bands

  • Debut interim Green Jacket uniforms

  • California Wild Fires cause the annual Causeway Classic to be played at the University Nevada, Reno

2019

  • Winter percussion ensemble "Sac State Indoor" competes in first Winter Guard International Regional Championship in Fresno, CA

  • Sac State Indoor named Northern California Percussion Alliance Independent A Class Champions at the Stockton Arena

  • Winter color guard ensemble "Sacramento State Winter Guard" competes in first Winter Guard International Regional Championship in Union City, CA

  • The band traveled to away game at Fresno State

  • Performs Halftime at the FCS Playoff game hosted at Sac State

2020

  • Marching Band goes Virtual due to COVID-19 Worldwide Pandemic

2021

  • Sac State Indoor and Sac State Winter Guard produce Virtual Shows that are released on YouTube

  • Band plays for 2 full days of the first ever CARmencement to celebrate our Sac State Graduates

  • Christopher Langton appointed as Associate Director of Athletic Bands

  • Marching Band comes back in person in the Fall of 21 with a strong 165 members

  • Band travels to Cal Berkley and performs at Halftime with Cheer and Dance

  • Band performs the first ever combined pregame and halftime with the UC Davis Marching Band at UC Davis

  • Band plays halftime at FCS Playoff Game hosted at Sac State

2022

    • Northern California Percussion Alliance-Independent Open Class Silver Medalists

    • Winter Guard International-Independent Open Class Virtual Finalists

  • Sac State Winter Guard- Competitive Color Guard
