Founding Philosophy
Deepen the mutual relationship between Japan and Papua New Guinea through inculcation of human resources with an international mindset to understand cultures of foreign countries including Japan as well as to represent Papua New Guinea using the Japanese language.
The Japanese Language Center (JLC) at Sogeri National School of Excellence (SNSoE) was established in 2017 in one of Sogeri’s buildings renovated with the assistance of Sogeri’s sister school in Japan, the Sendai Ikuei Gakuen, for students at Sogeri to learn the Japanese language. Until 2022, Sendai Ikuei Gakuen has been the sole sponsor for the operations and activities of the JLC. However, from 2024 the JLC has been fortunate and now benefits immensely from 3 additional sponsors. The new sponsors are Toyota Tsusho (PNG) Ltd (Ela Motors), JX Japan Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation and PNG Taiheiyo Cement Ltd. JLC is humbled and extremely grateful for the generous support from the sponsors, both past and present.

Outreach Activities of JLC:
JLC is one of the major Japanese language institutes in Papua New Guinea, proactively engaged in activities of the Japanese Teachers Association of Papua New Guinea (JTAP) and JLPT promotion.
JTAP was launched in October 2019 with aims at:
organizing Workshop among Japanese language teachers
organizing cross-cultural events and speech contests, etc.
