Teacher induction is a program designed to support the professional development of beginning teachers. Teachers work with mentors in a structured way to deepen and apply effective teaching practices in order to meet the requirements for a CA Clear Teaching Credential.
Holds a current preliminary credential
Must be currently employed as a full-time teacher with SSFUSD
1) Complete the Program Interest Form and include:
Copy of your Individual Development Plan or complete a Transition Plan
Priority application deadlines:
Traditional Enrollment- Fall 2025 cohort: Friday, August 15th
Mid-Year Enrollment- Spring 2026 cohort: Friday, January 23rd
2) Notification of acceptance into program and assignment of your Induction Mentor
3) Attend the Induction Orientation Meeting (virtual)- Monday, August 25th, 3:45-4:45pm
Q: What is the expected timeline for completing the Teacher Induction Program?
A: The program typically takes two years to complete. The Early Completion Option (ECO) provides an accelerated pathway for eligible candidates to complete the program within one year.
Q: How are mentors assigned?
A: Depending on availability, teachers will be matched with mentors who hold similar credentials or have experience in the same grade level or subject area.
Q: What if I have prior teaching experience but still need to earn my Clear Credential?
A: Exceptional teachers with several years of teaching experience may qualify for the Early Completion Option (ECO), an accelerated pathway that allows candidates to complete the program in one year. Please contact us to request an application and learn more.
Q: What does this work look like in practice?
A: Our program emphasizes mentoring and collaboration to meet the evolving needs of beginning teachers. Each year, teachers complete two inquiry-based cycles aligned to their current teaching goals.
Q: How do I apply?
A: The program information was included in the new hire onboarding packet. If you are not a new hire or need more information, please reach out to us.
Q: Am I eligible to participate in the program if I am hired late into the school year?
A: The application deadline for the current school year is the last week of September, which is different from the priority deadline. If you are hired after this date, you will be eligible to participate in the Spring cohort. The application deadline for the Spring cohort is December 12.
Q: Am I able to earn continuing education units for participating in the program, and can they be applied toward salary advancement?
A: Yes, you are eligible to earn professional units through Courses4Teachers upon completion of each portfolio inquiry cycle. Units are $50 each. Over the two-year program, you may earn up to 16 units, while ECO candidates in the accelerated one-year program may earn up to 8 units. Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the annual maximum allowable number of postgraduate semester units is fifteen (15).
