What are the responsibilities and functions of our Local Advisory Committee?
In compliance with State and Federal regulations, the majority of the committee members must be legal guardians. The committee must meet throughout the school year to share information on special education issues and concerns.
In partnership with the Smithfield school administration and the Special Education Department, we work to determine appropriate programs and services that our children are entitled to with differing abilities. We take into consideration what the children’s needs are for their success while in the classroom, throughout the community, and into adulthood. We work to support and protect all policies, rules, and regulations that may affect the special education population in our town.
