SRM VALLIAMMAI ENGINEERING COLLEGE, a Division of SRM Group of Educational Institutions for privileged Learning, is functioning under the auspices of Valliammai Educational Society (which provides quality education in the various fields for more than 3 decades) with the noble vision of, “Educate to excel in social Transformation” since 09.09.1999. UGC, New Delhi & Anna University, Chennai have granted Autonomous status. Approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The College offering 2 programmes namely Engineering & Technology and Management. In this 9 Under Graduate courses and 7 Post Graduate courses are offered by SRMVEC.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has started functioning from the year of 2008, offering B.E. degree programme in Mechanical Engineering and M.E.-Industrial Safety Engineering. Initially, the annual intake in U.G was 60. The intake level was enhanced to 120 in the year 2011–12 and to 180 in the year 2013-14.The Post Graduate Programme was established in the year 2019-20 in M.E.-Industrial Safety Engineering with the annual intake of 18.
The department has highly qualified and well experienced faculties specialized in areas like Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Design, Thermal Engineering, Industrial Safety, CAD/CAM, Refrigeration and Air conditioning and Energy Engineering. The Department is well equipped with excellent laboratory facilities with adequate technical supporting staff. The Department consists of erudite faculty members, who are constantly engaged in undertaking research work of original nature and subsequent publications. Many of the members of the faculty have earned to their credit quite a number of research papers published in the national and international journals of repute.
Department of Mechanical Engineering is Accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO’s) :
PEO1: To prepare our students for successful careers as employees or employers in addition to pursuing higher education.
PEO2: To prepare our students with fundamental knowledge in Mechanical Engineering in order to understand, analyze, design and create
products.
PEO3: To develop our students to have an advanced, deep and wide knowledge of multidisciplinary fields.
PEO4: To prepare our students to be ethical professionals and create interest in lifelong learning through self-study.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO's) :
PSO1: Ability to analyze and solve problems related to mechanical engineering.
PSO2: Can be able to apply thermal, fluid, design, electrical & electronics engineering principles to mechanical engineering applications.
PSO3: Would be able to apply the tools and techniques of quality management of manufacturing service processes.
PSO4: Ability to use the concept of process planning and cost estimation to manufacture different products.
