12th National Level Technical Symposium MEQNZO 2025
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, organized the National Level Technical Symposium MEQNZO 2025 with great enthusiasm and participation from students across various institutions.
The event commenced with the registration of participants, followed by the inaugural ceremony held at the Seminar Hall, Admin Block. The inauguration began with an invocation song, creating a spiritual and serene atmosphere. This was followed by the traditional lighting of the Kuthuvilakku by the dignitaries on the dais, symbolizing the dispersal of darkness and the spread of knowledge.
The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Viswanth, President of MEQNZO 2025, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries, participants, and guests. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. S. Thirugnanam, Professor and Head of the Department, who inspired the students to actively participate in technical events and enhance their learning.
Mr. Surendran, Secretary of MEQNZO 2025, then introduced the Chief Guest of the day, Mr. R. Balasubramanian, Senior Principal Engineer – Vehicle Electronics System Delivery Head, Mahindra Research Valley. The Chief Guest delivered an insightful inaugural speech emphasizing that students need to improve their talents for industry readiness. He highlighted the importance of upgrading technology knowledge and maintaining discipline as key factors leading to success. His words greatly motivated the participants and inspired them to pursue excellence. Following his address, the Chief Guest released the Souvenir of MEQNZO 2025.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Rupan, Vice-President of MEQNZO 2025, who expressed gratitude to the Management, Director, Principal, Vice Principal, dignitaries, organizers, participants, and sponsors for making the event a grand success.
Post inauguration, various technical events were conducted at different venues.
29 students from various colleges were participated. The events included:
• Paper Presentation – Showcasing innovative research and ideas.
• Mech Morph – CAD design and modeling challenge.
• Mech Quiz – Technical quiz competition.
• Metal Mettle – Testing mechanical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
• Mech Talk – Technical debate and discussion forum.
Each event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students showcasing their technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills. After the conclusion of the events, the winners were announced, and prizes were distributed to acknowledge their achievements.
The entire symposium was meticulously coordinated by Dr. S. Suresh Pungaiah, Associate Professor, and Mr. T. Muthukrishnan, Assistant Professor, whose efforts ensured smooth execution of the event from start to finish.
Guest Lecture on " Innovations in Composite Materials for High-Temperature and Corrosion-Resistant Power Plant Components"
The Guest Lecture was successfully conducted on 12.09.25 as per the schedule approved. The programme started at 10.00 A.M. The resource person Mr. S.SELVARAJ is presently working as an Assistant Engineer-Mechanical (TNPGCL/TNEB) in North Chennai Thermal Power station-II,Chennai-120., delivered the expert lecture. He covered the important topics in Thermal Power Station such as,
·Use of composite materials in boilers and turbines.
·Methods to improve resistance at high temperatures.
·Corrosion protection techniques for power plant equipment.
·New developments in material selection for better efficiency and durability.
·Practical examples from North Chennai Thermal Power Station–II.
The lecture gave students useful knowledge about the real applications of composite materials in the power sector.
The topics covered were very useful to the students. A total of 89 students participated in the guest lecture. The guest lecture was ended at 11.30 A.M with vote of thanks.
Industrial Visit to " Hanon Systems Pvt. Ltd."
An Industrial Visit was organized for II Year Mechanical Engineering students to Hanon Systems Pvt. Ltd., Maraimalai Nagar on 11th September 2025. The visit was scheduled at 10:00 AM, and the team traveled by college bus. A total of 58 students participated, accompanied by two staff members, Mr. M.Vadivel and Mr. G.Lokesh. The team reached the company at 09:55 AM. The students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Sanjay (HR Head) and Mr. Joel in the training hall where they emphasized the skills and qualities industries expected from future engineers.
The Safety Officer, Mr. Ravi, briefed the group on the importance of safety protocols and shared relevant safety statistics. This was followed by an informative session led by Mr. Prabhakaran, Technical expert, and his team, who provided an overview of the company’s products, solutions, network, and major clients.Students were then divided into four teams of approximately 15 members, each guided by technical experts for a detailed tour of the manufacturing facility. The visit covered the production and operation of various components and systems, including:

The visit was very useful to the students. The visit was ended at 1.30 P.M and we reached the college at 2.00 P.M. The lunch was provided by the company for the students and staff.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO " NCTPC-II THERMAL POWER PLANT, CHENNAI"
An industrial visit was organized on behalf of the IV Year Mechanical Engineering students to NCTPC-II Thermal Power Plant, Chennai, on Athipattu Main Road. A total of 43 students and 2 staff members (Dr. S. Sivalingam and Mr. K. P. Manikandan) participated.
The team departed at 8:45 AM and reached the plant by 10:40 AM, where they were welcomed by Mr. M. Muralidharan, Assistant Engineer, Training Cell. He provided an overview of the plant’s operations, which includes two power-generating units (300 MW and 800 MW) using sub-critical vertical boilers. He also discussed recent advancements in the power sector and the essential industry-ready skills for engineers.
Students were divided into two groups and guided by plant experts through the following key sections:

The guest lecture on the topic “AI in Robotic Automation” was conducted on 5th August 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM. The session began with an SAE awareness speech by Dr. P. Baskara Sethupathi (A.P Sr.G), Department of Automobile Engineering, SRM IST. The expert lecture was delivered by Mr. A. Sirajudeen, Manager – Quality at ZF CVS India Ltd.

A guest lecture on “Advances in Industry 4.0” was successfully conducted on 14.03.2025 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. The session was delivered by Mr. R. Vignesh, an industrial trainer from TVS Training Centre Ltd. He covered key topics such as:

GUEST LECTURE ON “RECENT TRENDS IN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY ”
The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a guest lecture on "Recent Trends in Automotive Industry" on February 21, 2025. The event was conducted in collaboration with SAEINDIA SRM VEC Collegiate Club, Renewable Energy Club, and the Institution’s Innovation Council. The objective of the lecture was to enhance students' understanding of the latest advancements in the automotive sector.
The session commenced at 10:00 AM with a welcome address delivered by Dr. S. Thirugnanam, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Following this, Dr. S. Suresh Pungaiah, Associate Professor, introduced the resource person, Mr. G. Mageshkumar.
Mr. G. Mageshkumar delivered an insightful lecture covering various advancements in the automotive sector, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Connected Cars, Shared Mobility, Electric Vehicles, Battery and Heat Management Systems, and Vehicle Control Systems. He elaborated on the role of directly controlled variables, indirectly controlled variables, sensors, and actuators in chassis control systems. Key topics discussed included:

Following the lecture, an interactive session was conducted, where students engaged with the resource person, seeking clarifications and discussing various aspects of automotive advancements. The session was well-received, with students finding it highly informative and engaging.
The event concluded with the felicitation of the resource person by Dr. S. Thirugnanam, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. S. Suresh Pungaiah, Associate Professor, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person for his valuable insights and participation.
A total of more than 50 students and faculty members attended the session. The lecture proved to be an enriching experience, providing attendees with an in-depth understanding of emerging trends in the automotive industry.
GUEST LECTURE ON “ADVANCEMENT IN MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY”
On 06-02-2025, a guest lecture was arranged for Mechanical Engineering students. The Guest Lecture on “Advancement in Materials Technology” program was scheduled at 9.30 am for the department of mechanical engineering students. The following topics were covered by the guest speaker Arunachalam M, Senior Manager - Chassis Engg - Design & Development, Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre India.

Forenoon: Dr. M. Arul Prakash (Sri Sairam Engineering College) spoke on steam nozzles, including their function, types, shapes, and applications.
Afternoon: Dr. R. Srinivasan (SRM Valliammai Engineering College) discussed transmission systems, types of drives, and V-belt drive design.
Day 2 (19.12.24):
Forenoon: Dr. N. Thangapandian (St. Joseph Institute of Technology) covered Design for Additive Manufacturing and its applications.
Afternoon: Dr. R. Srinivasan presented on the design procedure for gearboxes and problem-solving.
Day 3 20.12.24):
Faculty members visited two industries: SRM PR RMC, where they learned about ready-made concrete block manufacturing, and SRMPR AUTOTECH, where they gained insights into bus body design and manufacturing.
Day 4 (23.12.24):
Forenoon: Dr. S. Suresh Pungaiah (SRM Valliammai Engineering College) discussed advancements in IC engines, diesel spray and flame chemistry, and fuel injection systems.
Afternoon: Dr. S. Suresh Pungaiah covered advancements in steam boilers, including their types, construction, and operation.
Day 5 (24.12.24):
Forenoon: Dr. S. Suresh Pungaiah addressed advancements in refrigeration and air conditioning.
Afternoon: Dr. R. Srinivasan provided a session on the design procedure for flat belt drives, focusing on problem-solving.
The event concluded with the coordinators thanking the experts and participants. Faculty members actively interacted with the speakers, clearing doubts and gaining valuable insights into research and its significance. Participants found the sessions informative and motivating.
NATIONAL POLLUTION PREVENTION DAY
A guest lecture on “National Pollution Prevention Day” was successfully held on 02.12.2024 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. The session was conducted by Mr. D. Arunkumar Bharathy from Health & Safety Hub – Holistic Health & Wellness, Chennai. Key topics included:

MEQNZO 24-25
The Department successfully organized the 11th National Level Technical Symposium MEQNZO 24-25 on August 31, 2024, in the New Block Seminar Hall. The event began with an invocation and a welcome address by Mr. K.T. Manikandan, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the Kuthuvilakku by Chief Guest Mr. Narayan Vijayakumar, DGM at Mahindra and Mahindra, Chennai. Dr. S. Thirugnanam, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, delivered the Presidential Address, and Mr. S. Tharun introduced the Chief Guest. In his Inaugural Address, the Chief Guest emphasized the evolving role of Mechanical Engineering amidst advancements in fields like AI, ML, and Data Science. He also released the event souvenir and received a shawl and memento. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. K. Javeesh Aruraam, after which technical events proceeded as scheduled.
GUEST LECTURE ON "ADVANCES IN AUTOMATION SAFETY"
A Guest Lecture on “Advancements in Automation Safety” was successfully held on August 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Mr. S. Prabakar, Regional OHS Manager at Ford (P) Ltd, served as the resource person. He delivered an expert talk covering key topics such as industrial safety rules, risk assessment and mitigation, fatigue reduction, use of cobots and material handling robots, and continuous process monitoring. The session was highly informative and beneficial
INDUSTRIAL VISIT-TVS TRAINING AND SERVICES LTD
On 15-03-2024, an Industrial Visit (IV) was arranged for III Year students to TVS Training and Services Ltd., Ambattur, Chennai. The visit was scheduled at 9.15 am in a college bus. The students accompanied by 2 staff members reached the company around 10.30 am which is situated at the Industrial Estate of Ambattur, Chennai-600058.
The Assistant manager Mr.V.Arunkumar welcomed the team, delivered an excellent speech on the various aspect of the Plant. He also highlighted the various things on which the future Engineers should concentrate and what the Industries expect from the student community.
Later the entire team was split into 2 groups and each team lead by the training experts of the plant, who was also responsible for making this visit a reality.
The various sections of the plant, starting from Machining Centre, Welding section, Automation centre and finally ending at E-Vehicle testing and assembly centre, were thoroughly narrated to the students
MEQNZO 2024 NATIONAL LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM
The department successfully conducted the National Level Technical Symposium on 09-03-24, Saturday at the Admin Block Seminar Hall. The program Started with the Inauguration around 9.30 am with arrival of the Chief Guest Mr.K.Annadurai, Senior Manager, J.K.Tyre Industries Limited, the speaker spoke about the various aspects of needs of the industries. He also reiterated the importance of learning deeper, the various subjects of the curriculum and also asked the students to desist from the mobile phone addiction. He also conveyed want industries expect from a Mechanical Engineer in particular. Later on, the events were conducted as per the plan already approved, students from various colleges, took part in the event and winners and runners were selected by appropriate committees. The program concluded by evening on that day.

The SRM fire safety Dept. People headed by Mr. M.Chandrababu, SRM Senior Safety Officer delivered a lecture in the FN session 10.00 am to 12.00 pm (05-03-2024). In the AN session 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm, a practical fire safety Demo was successfully conducted by the above Team.
The volunteers displayed placards on various important various safety aspects related to Helmet, Seat-Belt, LPG, Road, Food etc;

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of SRM Valliammai Engineering College has conducted Five days Faculty Development Programme on “Forces on solid structures, Fluids and Gases” from 19th June to 23rd June 2023 in the Mechanical Department Dynamics Lab. In the Faculty Development Programme, the Seven resource persons has delivered the presentation. In First day, the Forenoon session was presented by Dr.D.EASU, Associate Professor, KCG College of Technology, Chennai. The plant is for Design & Development of Airworthy Products like bolt & nuts and other fasters which is used in aircrafts, helicopters, satellites, rockets and missiles.
An Industrial Visit to Hanon Automotive Systems Pvt Ltd, Maraimalai Nagar, Chennai was arranged for the Final year Section - 2 Mechanical Engineering students on 20.10.2022. The fabrication and assembly of radiator, compressor and automotive air conditioning system were explained by the employees. 4000 units of automotive air conditioning system parts were produced every day.

Five days Faculty development program held from 11th May to 15th May,2020 on the topic Concept of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Dynamics for Mechanical Engineers was held with help of Google meet platform.
A National Level Technical Symposium (MEQNZO 2020) on was conducted 20.02.2020. The primary objective is to bring the academicians and practitioners in mechanical and other associated fields on a common platform to share their knowledge and expertise so as to contribute towards research and development in the field. Technical events like Paper Presentation, Business Plan, Machinist, RC Racing, Robo War were conducted. About 30 papers on diverse topics encompassing Manufacturing, Design and Thermal Engineering topics and recent Trends in Mechanical Field and other technical topics were received for the conference from reputed institutes across the country. The chief guest, Mr.Balaji Swaminathan , Director of RamBoll PRIVATE LIMITED, Chennai highlighted the importance of organizing such symposium for the benefit of student community as well as Faculty. He pointed out that such symposium would ignite a spark in the minds of budding engineers and they would be triggered to explore more in the areas of their interest and also highlighted the importance of Renewable Energy Sources.
A Guest lecture on “Advanced IC Engines – Brake system Design and Latest Trends” conducted on 06.03.2020. The chief guest Mr. Prasad Arun Kumar, Lead Engineer, Mahindra & Mahindra, has started his presentation on Advanced IC Engines- Brake System Design and Latest Trends”, the presentation was revolving around the recent trends in the Industries like, IC engine Design, ABS, EBD, Drum and Disc Brake Comparison. The session was very much interactive as the speaker as well as the students regarding the discussion of modern trends.
A Guest Lecture on “Finite Element Analysis” for the third year students on 25.01.2020. The chief guest Mr.K.V.Dhayaanidhi, CAE Engineer, PHA India P Limited, Sriperumbudur delivered his lecture in the following topics: Introduction to FEA, 1-D element, 2-D element, Pre-Processor, Post processor and Meshing applications in Automobile components. The lecture was highly useful to the students through which they got brief ideas about the recent technologies in structural and design in components.
A Guest Lecture on ' Mechatronics ' was organised for the IV Year students on 17.09.19. Mr. J.Deepak Manikandan, Director, Research and Development, Institute of Advanced Embedded Computing, Chennai delivered his lecture on the following topics: Introduction to Mechatronics, Automation, Microprocessor and Microcontroller applications in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Programmable Logic Controller, IoT.
A Guest Lecture on the 'Design of Machine Components' was organised for the III Year students on 28.08.19. Mr. Vijay Krishnamoorthy, Sr.Design Engineer, Ford Motors Private Limited, Chennai delivered his lecture on the following topics: Introduction to engineering design, prototyping and finite element analysis.

Research Assistant Professor, Aerospace Engineering - Aerodynamics, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Kattankulathur Campus, SRM Institute of Science and Technology delivered his lecture on the following topics: Basic concepts in Isentropic flows, Flow through ducts, Jet Propulsion and Space Propulsion.

Mr. S.Parthiban, Sr. Research & Development Engineer, Lara Orthopaedic Solution Private Limited, Chennai delivered his lecture on the following topics: Introduction to engineering bio materials, Evolution of bio engineering materials, Applications of bio engineering materials industrial and medical sectors.
A guest lecture on 'Design of Machine Elements' was conducted on 12.09.18 for the Third year student. Mr.S.Uthanda Krishnan., Design Engineer, TCS Chennai gave lecture on design of engine exhaust components, computational fluid dynamics, design of bellows and tubes.
A Guest Lecture on 'Mechatronics' was delivered by Mr.P. Elango, Assistant Project Manager,Sathyam Venture Engineering Services on 24.09.2018. He briefed about the Hybrid Vehicles, Automotive Electronics and Vehicle Dynamics.
A Guest Lecture on the 'Modern Manufacturing Systems' was delivered by Mr.K.Balaji Swaminathan, Director, Ramboll Pvt Ltd, Chennai for the Second Year Students on 20.07.2018 and he briefed about the recent developments in Laser Beam Machining, Electron Beam Machining and Ultrasonic Machining.
A three days “Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp” was conducted from 12.03.2020 to 14.03.2020. The camp was registered by 75 students. The chief guest Mr.M.Boopathy Managing Director, Adhiam Thermal System and Solutions Pvt ltd, Chennai, who inaugurated the program on 12.3.20 forenoon session and gave an introduction about entrepreneurship and covered the following the topics: Entrepreneurship General Concepts, Historical background entrepreneurship & Present scenario. He also extended his presentation with video clips related to the topic. The afternoon session was handled by Ms.Sujaya Rao, Co-Founder and COO, Future Edu, An educational service company, Chennai, who covered topics on Identification of Business opportunities & Mechanism of product selection and Technology Assistance from R&D labs & other institutions on choice of technology. She added up points on the reality of entrepreneurship and the adventure in entrepreneurship. She also briefed the topic with some video clips. Mr.Prabhudhas, CEO,V Equal IR T &C Service Mogappair, Chennai was the chief guest on 13.3.2020 forenoon session. He gave a lecture about Communication for better results in Creativity and Business intelligence. In afternoon session the participants along with four faculty members went for industrial visit to Dev Systems (P) Ltd, 14 Kannan Koil Street, Pattaravakkam Chennai-98 There they were given exposure about advanced hydraulic System design and testing & commissioning. The students were clearly explained about the various processes like fluid pump design and manufacturing. In the third day forenoon session was handled by Dr.E.Bhaskaran, Deputy Director, Entrepreneurship Development & Innovation Institute, who covered topics on How to start a SSI unit (General concepts about the Government formalities rules and regulations). He added up points on the Technical & commercial aspects of SSI units including project report. In the third day afternoon session was handled by Mr.K.Balasubramanian, HOF, TTC, Chennai. He gave a lecture about Solar power and its application in day to day life.
An 'Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp' was organized on 16.08.18, 20.08.18 and 21.08.18 for II,III and IV year students. Dr.E.Bhaskaran Deputy Director, Entrepreneurship Development & Innovation Institute, Mr.Hari Baskaran, R&D labs, Mentor-MSME Consultant, Dr.J.Padmini Prof & HOD/MBA and Mrs.A.Uma Devi, Asst.Prof /MBA were the Resourse Persons. Students went on an industrial visit to RJ Industries, Chennai as part of the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp.

Nallathambi Chief Executive explained about various sections: Stereolithography, Digital Light Processing, Fused deposition Modeling, Selective Laser Sintering, Selective Laser Melting, Electronic Beam Melting, Laminated Object Manufacturing, Binder Jetting , Material Jetting.
An Industrial Visit was arranged for our teaching staff on 19.11.18 to "Madras Engineering Private Limited" , Chennai. Mr.C.Shanmugham, Chief Supervisor explained about various sections: Warehouse, Furnace section, Core section, Moulding unit, Moulding sand section and Fettling section of the plant.

Value added course on "Engineering Simulation and Its Application in FEA"
Value added course on "Engineering Simulation and Its Application in FEA" was conducted from 30-01-2019 to 27-02-2019. Mr.P.Ramu, Assistant Professor., coordinate the course. The objective of this program is to enhance the knowledge for the application of FEA and simulation techniques in automotive industries with brief knowledge of engineering simulation, element selection, mechanical properties for various applications, basic mechanical analysis.
A five day Faculty Development Programme on the 'Thermo Structural Analysis' was conducted from 05-12-2019 to 12-12-2019. Dr.M.Kannan, Professor, KCG College of Technology delivered a lecture on the following topics: Air standard Cycles - Otto, Diesel, Dual, Brayton - Cycle Analysis. Dr.N.Senthilkumar, Professor, Adhiparasakthi Engineering College delivered a lecture on the topics: Deformation of simple and compound bars. Dr.M.S.Alphin delivered a lecture on the following topics: One dimensional Second order Equations - Discretization and ement types. As part of the Faculty Development Programme, an industrial visit was arranged for teaching staff to 'Green Pearl Electronics Private Limited'.
“National Seminar on Emerging Technologies in Mechanical Engineering” [NSETME-19] in association with SAEINDIA VEC Collegiate club and Renewable energy club was conducted on 02.02.19. The number of participants for the seminar was 108. In session1, the expert speaker Mr. Ganesh Adiga, Deputy General Manager, Mahindra and Mahindra explained about the current and future trends in power train design and its challenges specific to automobiles. In session2, Mr. N.Vijayakumar, Head, Fatigue and systems, Mahindra and Mahindra explained about the basics on an industrial approach towards a structural concern. In session3, Mr.Praveenkumar, Senior Manager, Mahindra and Mahindra elucidated about modern manufacturing techniques like additive manufacturing in the development of lightweight materials for automobiles. In session4, Mr.P.L.Muthukaruppan, Managing Director, Zero Watts Sustainable Solutions explained about the current problems in employing green energy and sustainable methods in the domain of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning with reference to public health engineering
SAEINDIA Southern Section has conducted a workshop on "Tractor Design competition" from 29.10.2018 to 31.10.2018.Students members of SAEINDIA from various engineering colleges from different parts of India participated in the workshop. The workshop was felicitated by Dr. R. Rajendran, Vice Chair, Engineering Education Board, SAEINDIA, Mr. S. Nakkeeran, Head Executions, Hexdof Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd., Chennai and Mr. C. Varadharajan, Technical advisor, Hexdof Engineering services Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. They delivered their lecture in the following topics: Clutch, Transmission, Propeller Shaft and Rear Axle, Electronic Control Unit.
Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with SAE India Southern section has conducted a Workshop on "Aero Design Challenge-2019" 22.12.2018 to 22.12.2018. Students members of SAEINDIA from various engineering colleges from different parts of India participated in the workshop. The function was felicitated by Dr. S. Senthil Kumar, Professor, SRMIST, MC & Vice Chair, SAEISS. He gave a brief Overview of ADC. Dr. Shankar Venugopal, Vice President, Mahindra & Mahindra gave Inaugural address.
A skill development programme on "Manufacturing Machine Tools" was arranged on 10.11.2018 for Non-Teaching staff. The following topics were discussed: Abrasive processes using grinding wheel, Cylindrical grinding, Surface grinding, Centre less grinding, Milling operations, Gear cutting, Gear shaping.
A one day skill development programme on the 'Basic operation in Mechanical Engineering' was organised on 13.11.2019 for non-teaching staff members of various departments. The following topics were discussed: Lathe working principle, Welding, Drilling, Milling, Grinding, Shaping operations.
