About Founder- Dr. Chinta Adinarayana Sarma

Chinta Adinarayana Sarma., born on Shravana Pournami of Manmadhanama Samvacharam according to Telugu calendar i.e., 2nd August 1955 according to english calendar in Kuchipudi village, Krishna Dist., Andhra Pradesh, India. His parents are Sri Chinta Radhakrishnamurthy and Smt. Sitamahalakshmi. His father is one of the most revered Gurus from the traditional dance family 'Chinta' of Kuchipudi village.

Born in a family of eight children (two elder & two younger brothers and three elder sisters), he started learning dance from his father at the tender age of four. He later received training from eminent Guru Bharatakalaprapurna Sri Chinta Krishnamurthy (cousin brother of Sri. Chinta Radhakrishna Murthy) and from "Kulapati" Guru Sri. P. V. G. Krishna Sarma

During the same period, Guru Vedantam Parvateesam used to teach all the young dancers in the temple of Kuchipudi village. Sri Chinta Krishnamurthy seeing Chinta Adinarayana Sarma’s dance talent offered him to play the role of Prahalad in Bhaktha Prahalada Vijayam of Kuchipudi Yakshaganam. Soon after that Guru Sri. P. V. G. Krishna Sarma had a Yakshaganam with all the child artists of the village. Thus, he made his first female personification role as Chitralekha in Usha Parinayam.

In 1961, Sri Banda Kanakalingeswara Rao garu, then famous Stage & Telugu movie artist, and producer, dance & drama section, All India Radio, Vijayawada Center, pleased with his solo performance (‘Dasavatara Sabdam’), and presented him with a One Rupee coin.

Those were the days when seeing the talent of the boys in the Kuchipudi village, the various Gurus vied with each other in teaching and transmitting their knowledge to the avid youngsters.

His performances in Kuchipudi Yakshaganam as a child artist were very much appreciated and in Srikakulam, the art lovers presented him with a silver medal.

In 1966, his portraying of Stree vesham which is one of the most essential component of Kuchipudi Yakshaganams almost came to an end when during a performance in Avanigadda, there was an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction (his makeup prop for portraying female role), caused Chinta Adinarayana Sarma to take a decision to stop enacting female personification thereafter.

Chinta Adinarayana Sarma, saw in early 1960s Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam choreographed and directed ballet Ksheera Saagara Madhanam in which Vempati also performed as Lord Shiva. This particular event made telling impact on Chinta, appreciating the fresh and modern approach of Vempati Chinna Satyam. Chinta looked upto Vempati as his ideal icon in his dancing career in all aspects, right from the dance, choreography, direction, performance, work ethics, etc.

As a child artist in Kuchipudi Dance in the Kuchipudi village, he was the first recipient of the Scholarship of Rupees 25/- per month from the Sangeetha Nataka Academy, Central Govt. of India, New Delhi for a period of three years i.e., 1964 to 1967.

After completing Masters in Commerce, he landed a job in Guntur, but soon after, the inner urge to continue the work of the traditional families of Kuchipudi as against the general well being offered by a job ensured that he didn’t continue being in a job. In 1983, he took rigorous, extensive and intensive training from Guru Dr. Vempati garu in Kuchipudi Kalakshetra for three years by which Chinta was shaped as a full pledged authentic Kuchipudi Dance Guru. Thenceforth, his orientation has been more and more on teaching and choreography though he continued performing. He obtained Master of Arts Degree 2008-2010 in Kuchipudi Dance from Telugu University.

He is one oh the Authors for the text book VIDWATH ANTHIMA (M.A., Dance) for the Govt. of Karnataka.

His choreography was outstanding for the dance drama 'Ushodayam' the birth story of Jesus Christ which yielded him Ph.D in Kuchipudi dance.

Dr. Chinta Adinaryana Sarma is known for his prolific contribution by way of excellent and unique choreography. He worked within the boundaries of the tradition and improvised stage techniques as early as 1970’s and 1980’s using settings of ‘Surabhi’ Drama, known for their magnificent and spectacular settings.

-Sakuntala Dushyantham – With fourteen students (child artists) and eight music exponents on his troupe to commemorate the International year of the Child 1979, well acclaimed. This ballet changed the colors of the artist's life of the Dr. Chinta Adinarayana Sarma and has given a glory to his life.

-Varudhini Pravaraakyam – Looking at this ballet, Guru Sri Vempati Chinna Satyam garu, remarked that ‘Chinta Adinarayana Sarma is devotionally following My footprints’.

-Ushodayam – The birth story of Jesus Christ depicted in an Kuchipudi dance tradition form was a very challenging adventure.

–Sapthaswaralu “Message oriented dance ballets to teach the artist as to how to live in harmony like the sapthaswaras. While sapthaswaras are independent when seen from isolation, but when together they cause miracles in music for creation of so many Ragas causing not only entertainment but also curing ailments.

Under aegis of the Andhra Pradesh, Cultural Affairs, three dance ballets, Andhra Kala Vaibhavam in 1998., 'Tridhara' and ‘Telugu Vaibhavam’ in 2004, he has played important roles apart from his contribution as director and choreographer. The Tri-works were performed at more than 85 places throughout the world.

-Sri Satya Sai Avataram Life history of Sri Sri Sri Satya Saibaba.

Sri Venkateshwara Vaibhavam (some lyrics of Saint Anamacharya on Lord Sri Venkateshwara Swamy. Over 13 Keerthanas are interrelated and made as a Kathanika). This dance ballet brought name and fame to Guru Chinta in the sphere of Kuchipudi dance.

Natya Visharadha, Deva Parijatham, Natya Vigyan, Natya Kalanidhi are some of the awards and titles conferred upon Dr. Chinta over the years.

Dr. Chinta Adinarayana Sarma wants to revive the yesteryear classics of Kuchipudi Yakshaganam, since all of them are path breaking classics and provide enlightenment to the modern era.

He has recently directed one of his disciples Smt. K.L. Bhavani's project in an unique experiment wherein online teaching modules under the name "Kuchipudi Natya Swaymabodhini" has brought out. It shows his penchant for taking Kuchipudi dance form to the modern youth, a person who works tirelessly to preserve tradition yet not averse to using modern age leading edge technology in dance with clarity and vision.

He started an institution for teaching dance, Sri Radhakrishna Kuchipudi Natyalaya in the year 1983. He worked as Instructor in B.H.H. Girls Junior College, Guntur, for several years during the period 1975 to 1989. Later, he joined as Instructor in the Department of Dance, Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad for three years from 1989 to 1992, and then as a Lecturer in Kuchipudi Dance, Govt. College of Music and Dance, Hyderabad from 1992 to 2012. While he has trained thousands of students over the years, Dr. Chinta says that he is still looking that elusive master piece as his contribution for dance in both as student and choreography.

He is a very humble person. He avers that being part of Chinta family, by God's Grace, blessings of Gurus and parents coupled with cooperation & sacrifice from his family has greatly helped him to become what he is today.

He is living with his wife Mrs. Bharathi Devi in Hyderabad. He has two daughters, Smt. Madala Krishnapriya and Smt. Janaswamy Radhika. His real successor in art is his elder daughter Smt. Madala Krishnapriya, who is efficiently and proficiently running the SRK Kuchipudi Natyalya named after her grand father Sri Chinta Radhakrishna Murthy.
